Ianto
Hello, I have just joined this forum and am a novice user of forums in general. I was wondering if anyone had any information on these A class motorhomes. I am looking at one at our local dealer which is a Mirage 600. It is plated 04 and has around 20,500miles on the clock with one owner usage. At present we own a two berth Autocruise Starfire which has been and is grear but with only two forward facing seats and no spare beds it does not work with Granchildren. What should I look out for when considering the Mirage. It looks nicely spec'd but is without air/con. Does anybody know what the problems or issues are with this van. I know that they have stopped making them so would spares be an issue? Any thoughts would be appreciated Thank you
Derek Uzzell
Hi Ian - Welcome to the Out&AboutLive forums. There is a UK owners' club for Mirage motorhomes http://www.mirageownersclub.org/ and this would probably be your best bet for detailed feedback on these vehicles, particularly regarding current spares availability. This 2011 O&AL forum thread would be worth looking at http://www.outandaboutlive.co.uk/forums/Motorhomes/Motorhome-Matters/2004-AutoSleepers-Mirage-5000-Luxor-EK/22305/ as includes comments from a Mirage Owners Club member who had a Mirage 6000. Derek Uzzell
MMM magazine tested a Mirage 6000 in 2007- http://tinyurl.com/cpm7oju (I don't how close a 2007 Mirage 6000 would be to a 2004 version (example here http://tinyurl.com/cpk5jce) but the MMM article might still be useful.) There's also a 2004 MMM report of a Mirage 5000 - http://tinyurl.com/chaw73q A-class motorcaravans will have features that don't apply to motorhomes that retain the base-vehicle manufacturer's cab section. Front bodywork will be unique and windscreen (often very expensive to replace) and front side-widows may have been produced specially for an A-class design. Check extremely carefully that windscreen/front side-windoews show no signs of damage. I believe all 2004 Mirages will have a rubberised roof coating - unusual for a European-built motorhome, though common enough on USA RVs. You may want to bear this in mind as, if there were roof-related problems, many UK motorhome dealerships may be unfamiliar with rubber-coated roofs. All Mirage 6000s will be above the 3500kg overall-weight limit and will require the driver to have a C1 driving-licence entitlement. This entitlement automatically expires at age 70, requiring a medical examination to retain it. http://www.nidirect.gov.uk/renewing-your-driving-licence-at-70-plus (I expect you are aware of this, but your comment about "grandchildren" suggests that the expiry-at-age-70 factor may be worth mentioning.) davidmac
Hi Lanto,I own a n Autosleeper Luxor EB which is in essence a Mirage 6000, just different stickers on the outside and different colour upholstery inside. The EB denotes end bed as oposed to EK end kitchen. They were all built and equiped to a very high standard by an Italian company for Autosleeper.I brought mine on a 52 plate almost a year ago with 35000 on the clock and think it's a good purchase I joined the Mirage owners club and found them to be a very likeable bunch of people.Very informal but very enthusiastic about their motorhomes, with a wealth of knowledge about them. If you need to know any more you can e-mail me davidmcgruer2@talktalk.net. Regards David
