Has anyone stayed at the Camp Municipal due Porteau, Poitiers recently. We are travelling down to the Dordogne and planned a couple of nights there, but The Caravan Club Europe book doesn't give much information about the site and there is no date given as to when it closes for the season. We plan to be there around middle September. Any info would be appreciated

Can recommend Camping Le Futuriste at St Georges les Baillargeaux. Site with heated pool just off the A10. Not far from Poitiers and adjacent to "Futuroscope" which is worth a visit (Whole day including the evening light show) See web site www.camping-le-futuriste.fr

No opening closing dates is supposed to mean "permanent".  Michelin gives, in and around Poitiers/Futuroscope, Camping Municipal de la Drouille at Neuville de Poitou, Camping Futur at Avanton, Camping la Croix du Sud at Jaunay-Clan, Camping Municipal du Parc at Dissay, Camping le Futuriste at St Georges les Baillargeaux and the Parc de Loisirs de St Cyr at, surprisingly, St Cyr.  All N of Poitiers and between/on the N147 and the D4, and within about 6km of Poitiers.  There's a chateau at Vayres, near Camping Futuriste.

It is easy to park the motorhome at Futuroscope for the day and there is an Auchan on the way from the site. You can go in and out of Futuroscope as often as you want during the day, they just stamp your wrist. This means that you can go back to your van for food and the odd cuppa. If you inform the site owner he will arrange for the gate to be manned when you come back from the evening light show (After dark)
