gmcclin
Hi, Hope some of you guys can help me out. We are heading to France in our motorhome again in June and hope to take in Paris this time. Could anyone recommend a site close to Paris with bus or rail links to centre of Paris. We would like to spend maybe two days on site so we could take in the usual tourist attractions. Once again hope you can help
sean.clarke
I'm sure lots will offer good sites, we have just returned from Paris where we stayed at Le Beau Village De Paris (http://www.beau-village.com). 700m from the train station and into Notre Dame in 20 mins (9.5 Euros return)
gmcclin
Thanks Sean that seems a good recommendation. Having never been to Paris before would you have any tips on Do's and Dont's. Any advice would be most welcome
Caddies104
There is an Acsi site - Maisons Lafitte which is about 25 minutes into Paris. Train station 10 minutes away. We bought a day pass for around 11euro which took us into Paris on the RER and the use of the Metro, ...good value... If you google RER and metro, you can get info.. Site is ok we have been there a few times, could do with improving but found it good for a few days as most of the time we are in Paris.. The town of Maisons Lafitte is really nice, has a river, large park and plenty of cafes.. Whilst in Paris watch out for the conners, usually east Europeans, but if you ignore them they don't bother you... The metro is unbelievably good and quick, train every 2 minutes.. Also there is a hop on / hop off water taxi which is very good and takes you to all the sites of Paris...expect to pay around 10 euro for a pint?! If you go to the outside cafes.. But have a good time, one of our favourite cities.
gmcclin
Caddies104 thanks for yet another great recommendation. The site sounds good with excellent rail link to Paris. Dont like the sound of the 10 euro pint LOL. Thanks again
mel wood
We stayed at the Maison Lafitte site last April. With the ACSI Discount Card we paid 16 euros per night + tourist tax (rather than 30 euros plus). The site was being refurbished with a new facilities block already in use. You have probably already thought of this so please forgive me if I'm stating the obvious but a good guide book is useful and have an idea of what you want to see in Paris before you get there. Have a look at some guide books at your local library and bookshops so you have an idea of the one you wish to buy.
Paul M Who
The closest in IMHO and the best site to explore Pairs is Camping Bois de Boulogne 2 Allée du Bord de l'Eau 75016 Paris, France. GPS 48.868200, 2.234630 +48° 52' 5.52", +2° 14' 4.67" Yes - It's more expensive than the other "OUTSIDE" Paris Camping grounds Yes - It's been there forever and a day No - It's not an ASCI site No - It's not on the CC recommended list But it is RIGHT IN PARIS On the Seine at Suresnes It's has spacious plots, clean amenities blocks and is in a quiet area with the river on one side and the Bois de Boulogne parkland on the other. There is a bus provided by the camping ground that runs all day to and from Porte Malliot Metro M1 station, which takes you to the centre of Paris Place de Concorde in minutes - not the hour it can take from the OUTSIDE campsites - despite what the other campsites say. The cost of the bus fare is included if you buy the Paris Visite Multi Day Transport Card at reception. A short walk across the Suresnes Bridge brings you a Carrefour supermarket and a local market. There are also lots of Bars, Restaurants and Coffee Shops there too. There is also the T2 Tram line (Suresnes Longchamp) that will take you to La Defence Metro M1 to the north and to the south the connection to the train to Versailles. It is also extremely easy to get to if you arrive via the A15/N315. Take the D7 Asniers exit just after the going under the overpass. Continue straight on until you reach the river. Turn right onto Quai Aulagnier (D7). Follow this road along the river to the Pont Puteaux exit. Turn left across the bridge then right onto Allee du Bord l'Eau (there is a Camping Sign at the turn). The camping ground is about a kilometre further along on the right. You can't miss it just look for the traffic light at the entrance. If you want explore Paris day and night and still be 'close to home' there is nowhere better.
timndelia
We agree that the Bois de Bologne campsite is fine. Good position; easy to get to. We've used it to see the Paris Christmas market.

sooty10
Yes we stayed at Bois de Bologne and found it a very good site to explore Paris. A bit expensive but sometimes you get what you pay for. Keith (sooty)

A bit expensive but sometimes you get what you pay for. Keith (sooty) As I recall, there are usually lots of ladies sitting beside the main road in that forest area....with carrier bags hanging from the trees to indicate "open for business". I guess you really do get what you pay for............. ;-)
Tony Jones
Gerard: Wouldn't you rather spend your hard-earned money IN Paris - in its wonderful restaurants, galleries, and other attractions - than on extortionate campsite fees? Do you need a "holiday location," or just a place to put your van (and sleep) while you explore the beauties of the city? On the south side of the Chateau de Vincennes, there's a big free car park which is officially listed as an "aire de stationnement camping cars." Absolutely no facilties, but perfectly safe since there's a police barracks next door. And Vincennes Metro station an easy 5-10 minute walk away. We stayed 4 nnights, and wouldn't want to "do" Paris any other way.

Tony Jones
No big secret. Chateau de Vincennes is on the east side of the city, just outside the Périphérique, and the big car park is to the south of the Chateau. Co-ordinates are N 48deg 50' 24" E 2deg 26' 06" Fairly easy to find either by SatNav or by following signs for Chateau de Vincennes, whether from the BP or approaching from the east. But I should emphasise there are absolutely NO facilities, just unlimited free parking - you get what you pay for, but it certainly suited us. We were there to see Paris, not a campsite; we didn't want to be spending time sitting in the van so the surroundings were immaterial to us. Romahomepete
Bois de Boulogne a good site. We walk to Port Maillot metro and buy the mobilis pass, it is cheaper than Paris Visite. We then buy the next days Mobilis on the way back to the campsite at night. We do not use the shuttle bus but get the service bus between Pt Maillot and the Windmill (about 7mins walk from the campsite). The mobilis ticket is valid on this bus. Chateau Vincennes - we once left our car parked at the side of the road near the Police Barracks, in sight of the gate and went into Paris for the day. When we came back one of the rear windows had been broken and some of the kids belongings had been removed. Peter

You can then either catch the 244 Bus back to Pt Malliot Metro (it stops at Les Moulins-Camping) or catch the tram to La Defence (same Metro line as Pt Malliot). You are not the only one with a bad experience at Chateau Vincennes (we have met someone else who had their van broken into at this site). There is no way I'd be leaving my van parked and unattended anywhere on the street in Paris. The place is crawling with itinerant hustlers and ripoff merchants just looking for soft tourist targets. By all means risk it if you feel you must but I'd rather pay for the security of a comfortable and well run camping ground. Parking next to the Cop Shop (anywhere) is no guarantee of security. gmcclin
Thanks again for all the help. The Aire option looked like a good bet but as we only intend being in Paris for 2 maybe 3 days and in view of the other posts regarding security we have decided on Camping Bois de Boulogne. Thanks once again for the advice.
