nightrider Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 While walking round the extensive grounds of the Royal Oldham Hospital yesterday I had forgotten to have my walking stick with me so I was stumbling about, on the way back home I said to my wife I am going to have a look round for one of those disabled electric scooters, called into a local mobility shop to see what they had, I wanted what I now know as a 'boot scooter', the shop in question did not have any although the owner knew of one for sale, she gave me the number of the lady selling the machine, foned her up and went round to view it, it was exactly what i wanted, gave it a test run and it will do 8MPH with a range of 20 miles, in superb condition, I asked her what she wanted for it and she said she would be happy to accept £80, I was cock-a-hoop what a bargain? Taking it in tomorrow for a roof rack and a towbar to be fitted lol.
flicka Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 Sounds like a bargain Malc, even if the Batteries need replacing. Don't forget the 8mph models are subject to Road Vehicle registration number plate & should display a RFL Tax Disc. (although many don't ).
Tracker Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 Does it have an awning - aka wet weather canopy Malc - and I do hope it's a proper wide bodied coachbuilt job and not one of those silly tin can pretend thingumies so that you can wreak real havoc in Sainsbury's! If you had been a bit quicker you could have bought Dave's cement mixer for less than that!
jam151 Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 about 12-13 yearsago an elderly neighbour (sadly no longer with us) bought a mobility scooter, he had paid extra to get non puncture tyres i got a phone call 1 night asking if i could nip along to help him...... youve guessed it, it had a puncture. to cut this short thr scooter went back & he purchased a "state of the art" scooter.it came with full stormproof covr, lights, indicators, the wole works but most importantly proper tyres that couldnt be puncutred he could go roughly 45 miles on a charge about 8mph allthough he only went about 10 miles to visit friends (mostly in the pub) he would recharge it at a friends house, this was 1 of the best buys he ever made as before he had a stroke he would walk miles every day but was near housebound after the stroke, his only regret was it wasnt a 2 seater so he could take his wife with him. maybe a future concept for mobility scooters :-)
PJay Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 Some couples have His and Hers scooters. ! in our small village, we have many old people, so much so, that we have a Mobility Scooter shop

I wonder if that applies to these new children's two wheel electric scooters, could not believe the speed that two kids came past us on the pavement nearly knocking us flying. >:-(
kelly58 Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 At that price no doubt a Solar Panel would be handy !!
nightrider Posted February 20, 2013 Author Posted February 20, 2013 The wife and I have spent many happy years hiking and walking up hill and down dale, it came as a bit of a blow when I realised I couldnt do it any more, the thought of a mobility scooter came into my mind quite by chance and fortuitously I came across a bargain, so its a new toy for me to play with. Richard mentioned a cape for when it is raining, jolly good idea Richard will have a look for one.
