olley: Make sure you pop into Driffield itself on the Saturday, it's not too far to walk, about 10 minutes I recon (we go on our pedal bikes). Its a nice place with plenty of shops and pubs and I think there's usually a market on the Saturday morning. We only live in Hull so are only going for the day (probably Saturday) but if you see a Rapido 709F in the visitors' car park with 2 mad people and even dafter dogs - pop and say hello. For info for others who are thinking of going as day visitors - my husband has been having a shuftie at the web and came up with a "2 for 1" offer on day visitor tickets for the show - go to the following website: www.caravanninglinks.co.uk/shows.htm From what the site says there is "Two adults for the price of one" on ALL Stone Leisure shows. All you apparently have to do is print off the website page and take it with you. We'll try it this weekend and hopefully it'll work! I hope the weather is better though - it's belting it down here at the moment!

Mel B, So, you live in Hull - which is where I come from (well, it is a place to come FROM!). I was at school with another Mel (half of another pair of idendical twins, would you believe?), but he was male, so I suspect our paths may not have crossed! And you're right - Driffield is a lovely market town, well worth a visit. Nearby points also worth a call, especially if en-route or after the show, include Sledmere, with its amazing War Memorial and a village built entirely around a country estate, Burton Agnes Hall and Gardens, Skipsea Castle Mound and, of course, Flamborough Head. olley There's Hornsea Freeport ... at Hornsea just on the East Coast if your Mrs really wants a shopping experience, failing that Hull has the Princes Quay shopping centre and a smaller one called Prospect Centre but as they are currently buildingn a new shopping centre right in the middle of Hull it's a bl**dy nightmare for getting around and you forget parking a motorhome, trying to park a car is bad enough!!! You could also pop into Beverley, it's a lovely place with a very long shopping street which has just about everything you could want and a Saturday market.

Mel E ... what do you mean it's a great place to come FROM? It's not that bad a place to live or work either, it certainly isn't as manic as some places and the people are friendly. What school did you go to? I was at Priory Primary, Wold Road Primary, Setting-Dyke Juniors, then Henry Cooper Seniors. You weren't a HYMERS boy were you????

Mel E Just re-read your posting ... Flamborough Head - wonderful magical place, I could sit on the rocks all day just listening to the sea crashing about ... pure bliss. What do you think of Withernsea? We go there for our little 'escape' every now and then on Friday and then catch the market and shops in the morning before returnig home in the afternoon. Yes we do wild camp on the sea front but out of the line of sight of the houses so no problems and you just can't beat waking up to a lovely sunrise over the sea in the morning and skipping across the road with the dogs for a morning poddle. It's had quite a bit of money spent on it in recent years so is looking rather nice now but has still kept it's quaint old fashioned sea-side resort atmosphere.

Been to Driffield Show, very disappointing, not many stalls and even fewer dealers - not much support by the trade really. None of the accessory people, eg Fiamma, bike racks, awnings, surplus materials (like O'Leary - even though he's local!). A few food stalls, a couple of AV stalls, the usual non-motorhome specific stalls and one stall selling a few bicycles, all in all probably 25 stall retailers and around 10 dealers. Brownhills had some motorhomes but only a fraction of what they usually take to these things, Glossops, Timberland, East Yorkshire Caravans, South Yorkshire Caravans, the Fifth Wheel company all had a showing but again not much to choose from. The public attendance was very poor, the car park marshalls were no-where to be seen after lunch ... they weren't needed! One stall packed up at 2.45 pm! We went in at around 11.30 am after we'd had a potter round Driffield, and we'd virtually done it in 2 hours and even then we were taking our time! It's such a shame, it's a good venue, easy to get to, lots of flat camping areas and good facilities, near to the lovely village of Driffield and only 11 miles from Bridlington and other lovely East Yorkshire villages and towns. I don't understand why the dealers and stall holders don't support it more, it could be an excellent show but it's really floundering. Judging by the turnout today, I seriously doubt if it'll be on again next year unless there is some serious re-thinking as to what's gone wrong and for the orgainisers to get more input from the trade. The only other comment I can make is the advertising ... or lack of it, why don't the motorhome mags include it in their listings of motorhome shows? It's extremely unfair to pick and choose 'favourite' ones to include, I assume this is because it's organised by a 'rival' company but at the end of the day it's still promoting the motorhome fraternity and all that goes with it and should be supported by the industry, including other publications, not to do so is really penalising readers of the various magazines, they should get details of all event so they have the choice of which to go to, not be restricted by the publishers of the magazines. Well, that's me off my soap-box now, anyone else been to it? If so, what did you think?

Hi melb, it's as you say very poor turn out from the traders, and if they don't come then neither will the public. Happily for us we go to all these shows more for a weekend away, the company of other m/h, and I mustn't forget the wife loves to shop somewhere different :-D :-D olley

Forgot to say, the 2 for 1 offer for all Stone Leisure shows - it did work. We jus took a print-out of the page as instructed on the website and we got in - £5.00 for both of us. Suggest you do this before going to one of there shows in the future, there's nowt like saving money!!!
