JohnP Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 Can anyone recommend an organisation which will cover and recover if necessary a 25 year old motorhome when holidaying in France. This request is for a new owner and is for a annual three weeks holiday, not long term. It is also their first time driving abroad.
Guest pelmetman Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 Ours is 23 years old and we have ADAC ;-)...............Not needed to use them yet :D..........although those that have reports are positive B-)...........and your covered in the UK in any vehicle so you can knock any other company your a member of on the head..........excellent value for 80 squid B-)
Basil Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 I understand ADAC are supposed to be good, my only personal experience of them was that I was unable to get past the joining up phase due to my lack of knowledge of German, must be me as others seem to have managed it!! I therefore opted for Brittania Rescue on the package that covers Europe, well priced (particularly if you have ever been in a government related job role e.g. civil servant, GPO, BT, Post Office as you can join the CSMA and gain very discounted price saving far more than the club subscription) and with no age or size/ weight limits. BrianBW Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 Wow!! Patricia that's some information which I'm sure many will want, including me. Our van is 15 years old this year. We have been with SAGA Breakdown and their service has been 1st class. We had to have recovery service on two occasions in France. I understand SAGA only do 15 year old vans, but it has been mentioned they might go up to 17year old vans.
enodreven Posted March 18, 2013 Posted March 18, 2013 Hi, We are with ADAC and have been for 3/4 years now, the only problem that seems to have come up is the question of the €200 recovery, there was a thread on one of the other forums regarding some problems this €200 recovery limit, and while it hasn't put me off using them I do think its worth making yourself aware of a possible limitation. Please don't take my word for this check it out yourself, but from what I could understand the €200 limit is the maximum they will pay for the initial recovery to say the nearest garage, and that the limited €200 you are sort of in charge of, e.g. you need to ensure you do not exceed the €200 otherwise you pay the additional amount, and it doesn't make any difference who arranges for the breakdown company. The €200 has NOTHING to do with the cost of a recover back to your country of origin as those costs are covered, its just the initial breakdown recovery. I could be completely wrong, but that is my understanding of the situation and taking that into account I still feel ADAC is very good value for money Albeit if you can avail yourself of a deal similar to what Basil has explained above via a primary English speaking company then I think that could be a perhaps better alternative, as no matter what we do ADAC is German and as some of the reports over the years have shown that unless you are fluent in the countries language and ways of doing business, things at times can become confusing in the ways other countries do business. Hope that helps, as I said I will still be renewing with ADAC again this year.
