froggiefriend
we are new to caravanning and looking to buy a good used tourer . But which one??? Our vehicle is a Renault Megane Scenic 4x4 1.9 Tdi and the car manual tells us that the MAXIMUM towing weight is 1300 kilos so the safe load would be around 1100 kilos?? This puts us in the same towing car bracket as a VW Golf !!!! Have we got this right and we can only look at small, lightweight vans ?? Bit of a disappointment here as we were looking at a Dethleffs Camper or a Hymer Feeling but both seem to be too heavy for our vehicle. Think we will stick to camping unless someone can help us out here!
Derek Uzzell
If the manual for your Scenic 4x4 says 1300kg is the towing maximum then presumably that's the design limit. If you think the datum is wrong then the sensible thing would be to seek confirmation from Renault Customer Services. I believe I'm right in thinking that the Scenic 4x4 isn't a 'genuine' all-wheel-drive vehicle in that power is not delivered to the rear wheels during normal road use. (Anyway, that's what my neighbour who has got one tells me.) In which case there's a fair likelihood it's towing weight limit will be no greater than that of a similarly powerful FWD Golf.
