Russ MMM
A gas leak whilst driving has caused a motorhome to go up in flames in the US. http://www.omaha.com/article/20130329/NEWS/130329525
BGD
I don't see anything in the report which indicates that it was un-maintained gas bottles which caused the fire? Just a guess, but maybe the vehicle itself was running on LPG perhaps, which could explain why the report says "A gas leak caused the fire, which spread to the engine and engulfed the vehicle." malc d
In the U.'S. petrol is known as gas, so it could have been a petrol leak ? ( Good idea to look after your gas bottles though ). ;-)
Brian Kirby
Could be, or could just be that our American cousins call petrol gasoline, and "gas" for short - as in "step on the". A fuel leak seems somewhat more probable, in view of the fire being stated to have engulfed the engine. The Fleetwood Pace RV is/was available with both gas, and diesel, engines. Nasty incident though. Sorry Malc, you were psoting while I was typing!! :-D
Derek Uzzell
American motorcaravanners - what are they like? Can't even park in their garage without causing an accident! http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2167381/Motorhome-slams-house-test-drive.html

George Collings
No Brian. Its a good reason not to have accompanied the prospective buyer on that drive.

Thanks Derek. So as we thought, actually nothing to do with the maintenance of gas bottles at all.
Derek Uzzell
I found it difficult to appreciate how one could 'maintain' a gas-bottle in any case. Ensuring that a motorhome's LPG is in safe working order is plain common sense, but why highlight gas-bottles?
Mel B
Whilst I applaud Russ MMM for bringing to our attention a possible danger with LPG, it would have been better if the facts of the situation had been checked before worrying people unduly. :-S
malc d
A passenger managed to get out through a door. A dog was thrown out through a window. I may have missed it, but I didn't see any explanation of why the woman couldn't get out. (?)
