smifee
hi mark & gail i have had 5 vans fitted with the strikeback alarm by vanbitz. if i get a 6th that will have the same alarm. not cheap but superb workmanship. mike
JohnP
I have had two M/H fitted with Strikeback. Not the cheapest but worth every penny. A neat installation. Back up service is good when necessary. (Cracked hand set replaced within 24 hours) The interior sensor can be switched off and pets can be left in the van with all doors and lockers armed. Also at night the doors etc can be armed whilst you are in bed. If you get up in the night, as some of us oldies are prone to do the alarm doesn't go off whilst you meet the call of nature. No false alarms from spiders, air currents etc. You should have heard all of the caravan alarms going off at Fairford Air Tattoo when the jets came over. You do not get these false triggers with Strikeback.
Terrytraveller
Hi Mark, I fitted the Micromark house alarm from Focus DIY (also sold by Argos cat no 701 4666) £39.99. The kit has two PIR's and two magnetic switches, you can buy additional magnetic switches from Maplin for £2/pair. The alarm is supplied with a 9v/12v mains adapter with a 3.5mm plug, I discarded the adapter, and the unit is wired directly into the leisure battery on a two amp fuse. The alarm is set by using a key pad on exiting the van. http://www.micromarksupport.com/Instructions/Instructions/Security/MM23084%20+%20MM23244%20-%20Easyfit%20Alarm.pdf The system is hard wired just like the van blitz system, sensors on all windows, locker doors, cab doors and windows, I used one of the PIR's with a by pass switch, it detects movement inside the saloon, not necessary really, as any access would trigger the other door or window sensors, but activate it anyway when we are not in the van. I also fitted an addtional alarm under the bonnet, (two screws and one wire and its fixed, about 10 mins work) Argos cat 740 9439 £34.99 (was £20 when I bought it), it has remote controls, voltage/current and shock sensing, siren will activate when cab doors open, providing cab lights are in working order. Geoff Bell
I've bought a MH with a Sigma alarm and its doing my head in. It works perfectly well but I have to press the sigma radio button after I turned the key to activate the ignition. I then have to return the key back to start position in order to reset the ignition switch otherwise it won't turn. If I get it wrong and try to restart within 10-15 secs then alarm activates which dosen't always go down well on site. Anyone experiencing similar or have Brownhills fitted it incorrectly. Greynomad
Hi Mark, Like Smifee & JohnP, I have been using VanBitz 'Strikeback' Alarms since 1991 and have purchased six systems, todate, there is absolutely no way that anyone could persuade me to consider an alternative. I drive straight from the motorhome dealer to VanBitz at Taunton, as I feel very uneasy until their Alarm has been installed, in fact, back in 1993 I delayed fitting the alarm (thinking I was saving money) and within 3 months my new KonTiki 650 (£36,000) was NICKED!!! It was retrieved by the Police and I rushed to VanBitz, as fast as my wheels would turn!! Honestly, my advice has to be, forget budgetary constaint, you will already have paid a lot of money for your AutoTrail, protect it with the BEST Alarm System on the market. And, if you buy your Insurance also from the BEST, Comfort Insurance - you will get a Discount for having 'Strikeback'. Hope that you all enjoy your AutoTrail - I have owned three (since 1997). Best wishes, Chris (Greynomad)

Geoff Bell
I will try your method, I paid about £400 odd, I needed 2 garage doors alarmed 100 sqiud a door, but negotiated it in the overall price.
Dave Newell
Geoff and Michelle, The immobilizer has to self arm to comply with Thatcham standards, I think Michelle has it right by only turning the key one click before pressing the button to disarm the immobilizer. I suspect that Geoff is forgetting the immobilizer and turning the key to start position before realizing the immobilizer is armed. If the key is not returned to the full off position it cannot be turned to the start position (this is to stop people re-engaging the starter motor while the engine is running). Sorry Geoff but it's just a question of training yourself to turn one click, disarm immobilizer then start the engine. D.
Geoff Bell
I think you may be right Dave, I haven't had the vehicle long and am still getting used to it. I will try before slagging off the alarm.Having Durashift means I also have to remember to press the brake pedal as well and its just all too much when I'm on holiday.
