Randonneur Posted May 1, 2013 Posted May 1, 2013 Having a conversation with someone this week who has just bought a motorhome, he was told by the seller that he was fined whilst in Germany for not carrying spare diesel in a can. This is the first time I have heard of this. Does anybody know whether this is true or not.
Porkbrain Posted May 1, 2013 Posted May 1, 2013 Many moons ago, when I was a squaddie, it was certainly the case that you could be fined if you ran out of fuel on the Autobahn. Certainly never heard of 'having' to carry a can or know anyone that did.
lennyhb Posted May 1, 2013 Posted May 1, 2013 Yes that's right it's an on the spot fine for running out of fuel on the Autobahn, just remember fuel stops can be 40 - 50 miles apart on Autobahns.
Keithl Posted May 1, 2013 Posted May 1, 2013 But be warned that you are not allowed to carry spare fuel in cans on most ferries. Here is a quote from 'My Ferry Link'... "Carriage of fuel. Transport of fuel . The carriage of spare cans of fuel in private vehicles onboard a ferry is strictly forbidden." Link And I'm sure others will have similar restrictions. Keith.
Randonneur Posted May 1, 2013 Author Posted May 1, 2013 Many thanks for the replies. I thought the same that it was the Autobahn but the elderly couple didn't say they had run out of fuel.
