Quite a lot of info if you use the sites search function. Denmark a bit flat and boring, Viking museum at Roskilda worth a visit, used to be able to overnight there but they stopped it last time we were there

Sweden great, get up to Lapland if you can, Sami indians interesting, bear park a must! it's real pretty and you feel like your stepping back in time. Its a bit like the American west but with smaller trees... Just get some lonely planet or rough guide, and have a read up and ask away on here for specifics.

Have been watching the TV series the Vikings it's great, they go to Upsalla for a religious festival yearly for animal and human sacrifice to the gods...now im sure this was missing from any guide book I read! and not mentioned when we were up there. Unless i missed it....The Vikings were truly frightening.....

Camp sites cheap, lunch ( daggan Rass?) far better value then dinner..so if eating out have lunch...

Planning to visit Danemark-Sweeden-Norway in July-August. Would be grateful for Any help/suggestions regarding motorhome stops and what to visit.

Many thanks.

Depends how far north you are going - but if it's the far north I'd suggest you always keep your fuel tank at least half full. There are places to fill up bit we found some closed early evening, so fill up early in the day.

If you've got time, I reckon the Lofoten Islands are worth a visit.

Adam of Bremen, writing in 1070, described extensive human sacrifice at the temple of Old Uppsala in Sweden:

"There is a festival at Uppsala every nine years […] The sacrifice is as follows; of every kind of male creature, nine victims are offered. By the blood of these creatures it is the custom to appease the gods. Their bodies, moreover, are hanged in a grove which is adjacent to the temple. This grove is so sacred to the people that the separate trees in it are believed to be holy because of the death or putrefaction of the sacrificial victims. There even dogs and horses hang beside human beings."

I'm going back! :-D

If it helps after 3 weeks camping in Denmark in 2010 and M-homing in 3 continents in rented vans-

Denmark is flat but lovely, and if they could find a way of making a beer over there cost less than you pay for a small second-hand car over here would be even better.

One suggestion for a site. Charlottenfort about 5 km up the coast from Copenhagen centre. It is in a real Victorian fort, complete with enormous cannons, on the coast looking across to Sweden. Fantastic views, you wash etc in the old powder magazine, good swimming right in front on the foreshore, cafeteria in park outside entrance, bus direct to Copoenhagen Centre (pass from kiosk in cafe) 10 minutes, shops 5 mins. Medium-size vans, but they were enlarging the bridge into the site when we were there.

JudgeMental, Caspar2,Malc d Thank you very much for your replies and please keep them coming.

The search facility seems to work in way that I found hard to understand! In response to say Sweeden I get threads that have nothing to do with sweeden, the word Sweeden is not even present in the body of any theads selected by the search facility!.. Am I using the search facility correctly?.....

...and Denmark is not "Danemark" - still, u got Norway right.

However, I have been to Denmark and the west coast is wild and flat with massive beaches and dunes.

Am away in van at mo so can't reference my notes but from memory (and ACSI) I think one nice site we used was Ronaes Strand Camping at Norre Aby DK-225. It's ACSI site 58 in the part 1 book.

We did Norway last year, via Harwich - Esjberg, up to northern tip of Denmark, then ferry to Kristiansand. Later discovered you can get DFDS freight ferries from Tilbury or Immingham to Gothenberg, if you ring them up and ask nicely. Only 2 nights in Denmark, at an aire in Skive on the way up, and a free one in a car park in Ribe returning - a very pretty and historic town worth a visit. Lots of proper campsites on the coasts, lots of facilities for families, likely to be busy in midsummer. 3 great weeks in Norway, we only got up as far as Trondheim - part wild camping (very easy) and part sites at about £20 per night. Buy your food and drink in Denmark - British prices - our ferry to Norway was full of Norwegians having stocked up! Register for Norwegian toll roads before you go - they use ANPR and will bill you, less if you advance register. Road tolls for over 3.5 tonnes, and ferries for over 6m long more than double. If you come back through Sweden, the bridges are very expensive, even for under 6m long. We came back via a Stena ferry from Varberg to Grena in Denmark, much cheaper. Varberg is lovely, and has a free aire under the castle. Whilst Denmark and southern Sweeden are a bit flat, virtually anywhere in Norway has jaw dropping scenery, so plan for plenty of stops and not very far each day. A long way and a lot of money to get there but well worth it!

With regard to fuel stations closing early, this is because most have unattended pumps now, however when I first arrived in Finland and used to visit Sweden on a regular basis I only had UK issued credit cards, and most of the automated pumps would not accept them,

Not sure if that situation has improved at all.

We are currently in Denmark, on our way up to Norway.

We've found Denmark to be very nice. Much better than anticipated, so much so that we are spending more time than planned. I wouldn't discount it - we are however not bothering with the Western coast or the northern tip of Jutland.

A little flat at times but much more attractive than Holland ! - The area in their "lake district" (near Silkeborg) and near Ebeltoft (Mols Bjerge national park) are more hilly and very pretty.

Ribe (oldest small town in Denmark) is worth a detour for a wander down its cobbled streets.

People are friendly, atmosphere is relaxed, scenery is very pretty - We have concentrated on the inside and east coast of mid-Jutland and so far we have stopped in Sondeberg, Ribe, Hovbord, Aarhus and Ebeltoft.

We'd recommend visiting ArOS (museum of modern art in Aarhus) - a great experience with a variety of works and installations at the moment. We stayed at the Aarhus Nord campsite in Lisbjerg (acsi) 20 mns bus ride into Aarhus. Aarhus itself has a nice feel, spending a couple of hours strolling through their "latin quarter" is nice.

Another 2 lovely Acsi sites with very welcoming owners and great facilities: Hovborg (20 mns south of Billund) in the countryside with good cycling and walking in the woods and Blushoj camping, near Ebeltoft - exceptional location right on the sea.

When coming from Germany there is a farm offering free MH stopover in Dybbol near Sondeborg, nice people. GPS N54d 54' 41"  E 9d 43' 40".

Worth investing in the Nordic camper guide 2013 for stopovers / aires / farms.

Enjoy, and wave at every GB plated van (there aren't many) on your way up: it may be us on our way down :-)
