gocro
1. An engine will always have to speed up to maintain a set speed in a lower gear 2. Normally, with a slipping clutch( a sign of a worn clutch) the revs increase with no increase in speed .usually noticed most in top gear. 3. Never except the first price from a garage shop around. BGD
It is a big job, but not technically difficult. Just a load of stuff to take off. I'd say 5 to 6 hours labour. Plus the cost of the new clutch (make sure they put in a complete 3-part clutch set, of a well known brand.....specify it and ask to see the old clutch plus the box the new one came in) and a refill of gearbox oil which ain't cheap (about 2.7 litres of EP 75/80, from memory). It certainly is NOT eleven hours labour. Get a few more fixed price quotes; the guy who quoted you 11 hours labour doesn't want the job, so has hiked his price right up........unless he's only gonna charge you 10 quid per hour??????
