Fascinating program B-)...............a couple of observations ;-).....

Where have all the white Yorkshire folk gone? 8-)......

Plenty of Yorkshire accents, and lots of different cultures........yet the only white people I saw were Eastern Europeans, apart from Graham the grave digger who has made a fortune by spotting his niche in the market

;-)..............and learning to speak the local lingo.....Urdu :D

Minimum wage = high income households = bling.....

They like their bling........but as an economic model the Asian approach of several families in the same house certainly makes sense, if you add 3 or 4 people on minimum wage + a couple of pensions + child benefit for 4 or 5 kids......then you have a high income household :D.............add in the economy of scale of being able to buy food in bulk, plus no expensive child care costs, nor I expect water meters.......spread the rates between 6 incomes ;-).........

Although the knock on to local services of all these extra people is clear, but with less income from the rates.........maybe they should bring in a poll tax.............and make things fairer? >:-)

Looking forward to next weeks episode B-)

You will find Dave , the decent folk of Bradford have moved to Queensbury and other outer city areas due to the mass immigration Bradford has suffered .

As most of the inner city is mainly Pakistani the outer areas are mainly white British . Living in multicultural harmony eh ? .

It's called "White flight" don't you know, racist buggers those White folk, one dark face moves in, and they all move out. :D We buggered of to Wales, but we still can't understand the lingo.........

In the London borough of In Newham, only eight per cent of primary pupils are from a white British background. 8-) 92% obviously are non White, quite startling really. B-)

The survey is only of 1000 people; what a joke of an article ;-) and no wonder the Guardian has one of the lowest circulations of any UK newspaper, ;-)

Since it was conducted by Lord Ashcroft, I seriously doubt that! Oh and most opinion poll surveys use similar sample sizes, so there is a very good chance that the results are representative.

Conversely they may not if based on telephone surveys, consider this in this modern age

Dialing a sample of voters at random is biased - you have excluded potential voters without land-lines. These would tend to be younger adults who rely on their mobiles. A truly random selection of 1,000 voters should give a fairly accurate prediction - provided all voters are included in the field from which the sample is selected. ;-) and of course many people who do have land-lines that do as I do and ignore callers on caller display that they do not recognize. :-(

Mike, you are understating the facts.....the poll was 1002, not 1000. So clearing that up how can you make a poll sound like you want it to. Well you can get each of your operator's (say 10 0f them ) to phone 100 people that live in the areas of Moss Side Manchester, Sparkbrook Birmingham. Luton, Bradford, Huddersfield. Whitechapel, Southall, Bristol, Leicester, Oldham, Burnley, Keighley etc, etc. and there you are, 70% believe multicultural society is a good thing. :-S

Any poll can be rigged to reflect one's views.

It's hilarious that, when the result a public opinion poll accords with the views of the great unwashed, it's never questioned. But if a poll happens to post a result that they don't like then the poll is rigged or they've not rung land lines or the question was rigged. God, it's pathetic!

Who exactly do you class as the "great unwashed" obviously not yourself. As for polls I personally take them all with a very large pinch of salt, this particular one being no different.

In the run-up to the election, held on 9 April 1992, most opinion polls had suggested that the election would end in a hung parliament or a narrow Labour majority, as we all know in actually ended in an outright victory for the Tories. So I'll continue to take them with a pinch of salt. ;-) But I do occasionally wash. ;-)

And for a bit of devilment, I say to nowtelse2do, your right of course, assuming the ones that answered the phone in those areas could understand the questioners language. >:-)

Polling these days is very sophisticated - and, if done by a reputable organisation as this one was, usually accurate to within 3 or 4 percentage points. The reason for that is that they are not random as you suggest. The selection of people reflects, as closely as possible, the balance of the population. You can never rely totally on polls - especially if the result is close - but if a reputable polling organisation finds that 90% of people think something or other then you can at least conclude that the overwhelming majority think so.
