Hazy Baby
Hi all! Well, the long standing saga of trading our Knaus for a shiny new Laika is nearing its end and we should take delivery within the next 3/4 weeks. So, as we have chosen not to have an oven fitted in the Laika (hardly ever use the Knaus one and we would lose a lovely big drawer in the Laika) we have bought a Remoska. Now I have searched previous threads and picked up some hints and tips but am wondering if you can cook the convenience foods that come in "oven proof" plastic trays in it? I'm sure the foil ones will be ok but plastic? OH says course it will as its oven proof - no more clues he says, but I would rather know for sure before "melt down"! Of course most meals cooked in the Remoska will be very cordon bleu (!) but the convenience meals are ok for when we don't want mess/washing up - perhaps at a quick overnight stop. Anyone any experience? Or other Remoska tips? Ta very much. Hazel
Pampam
I'm christening mine tomorrow I hope it can cos when I'm in my van that's all I eat, I hope it doesn't end up like a crispy plastic pizza on bottom of remoska floor ? We'll see pp.
Hazy Baby
Ooh! I'd given up on any response! Please let me know if you have melt down!! We've used ours quite a bit now for chicken pieces, casseroles etc but no plastic trays - as yet! We're extremely pleased with it. Hazel
nedlog
We bought a small Remoska for the van and Kate (my wife) liked it so much she bought a large one for home. We never use the oven either in the van or at home since. One rainy day on a campsite we did bacon sandwiches for breakfast, cooked scones in the afternoon and then cooked a chicken and veg for dinner. Our large one broke after 5 years work, Lakeland replaced it striaght away. Keep looking out for easy meals in a remoska Good luck
Ann B
We have the small one and find it very useful, particularly as we only have the grill and 2 rings. Used it the other week to do veg and lamb chops. Put the chops in an oven bag which touched the element in the lid and where it touched it melted. The rest of the bag was OK though so I suspect a plastic ready meal container would be fine, as long as it didn't touch the lid. You could always rest it on a piece of silicone oven mat and give it a foil lid to protect it, have to cook it for a little longer if you did. Our favourite meal is sausage, potato and onion bake with melted cheese, delicious.
Hazy Baby
Thanks for all the info especially the caution re plastic and the element! It seems that once you have a Remoska you don't know how you managed without it.........we agree! Great piece of kit!
Minstrel
I don't think I'd use plastic in the Remoska. If we have a moussaka or lasagne, I carefully tip it out onto the foil top then put the meal the right way up, it is very quick to heat up that way, even though it doesn't perhaps look so neat an tidy. I wouldn't be without my Remoska, I've made casseroles in it, salmon and chicken are really moist and good. When away on the skiing trip I even made Dauphinoise potatoes plus cooking cakes for my family who were all in the area at half term and came round to see me (the non skier) for cups of tea and cake. Also Sainsburys part baked rolls with sunflower seeds cook very well if perhaps a little slowly.
