I see the CC held a competition for members to propose a new name for their sites' 'Vegetable Preparation Area' as part of their extensive (and no doubt expensive) re-signing of sites program.

It seems the winner proposed a change to 'Dishwashing Area'.

Can anyone tell me why anyone should care?

So they can spend loooooooaaadsamoney on new signage to justify yet another increase in Membership & Site fees. >:-)

Have been members of the Caravan Club for 45 years and during that time have only had occasion to feel the warden was unreasonable on one occasion for which a complaint was made and adequate recompense was made.

I also find it quite odd that anyone should feel wardens, generally, are anti motorhome as I have noticed on many occasions lately they have motorhomes themselves.

As has already been stated you are NOT allocated a pitch on a CC site you chose your pitch from those available and then go back and tell the Warden, if a pitch was allocated this suggests that it was in fact a Camping and Caravan Club site where that certainly was the practise and was a reason I left them.

There is good reason for the pitch parking requirements, so that everybody can enjoy their use of the pitch they are on without others encroaching, in my view a good reason and another one why I left the C&CC which always seems 'haphazard,

I do however believe that the pricing structure is wrong and too expensive on some sites but I guess that is the price paid for the success of the Club becoming a big buisiness and having the large increase in membership that it has been fortunate to have, surely they can't all be wrong and the VERY small minority that seem to continually complain on here be right can they?

As usual just my observations and opinions!

As to £30 for a night. The rates are clearly stated, and I don't think there is a single site that charges that much, even to non-members.

They can be - in peak season, anyway. Chatsworth CC site (which I think is one of their top-priced sites) in peak season charges £10.80 a pitch and £8.60 pp, so £28 for 2 people - add in £10 for a non-member, and that's £38 a night. And of course a larger party is way dearer...............

Cor! Then I stand corrected. I forgot we never go in peak season, so haven't ever looked at the peak rates.

Apologies Keith, I'd expect to be personally welcomed in, and given a Royal escort to my pitch for that much! £30 for a bleedin club site pitch! I thought €30 a bit steep, but it was Rome and it had superb facilities! :-D

I LOVE cc sites ,I like the pitch this way laminated sheet , I always book in and the warden showed me it and I still did it wrong!!! (Once) but I like the rules because everyone knows where they stand ie. not with their great big caravan awning and transit van parked 3 feet away from my hab door : and they are always so clean and cared for : I think it's well worth the money and I've stayed at quite a few now : haven't had a dodgy warden yet they have always been very nice: (could I be tempting fate here) and lots of level hard standings yippee . It's true you can't get in at busy times so I suppose that says it all : I wish they'd build more.abbey wood in London is lovely . And bunree in Scotland breathtaking so you could say I'm a fan of the cc .oh and if I want back to nature and a bit of tree hugging I like Scotland : Regards pampam

moan moan moan *-)

we have been members of the Caravan Club for 10 years and have access to the fantastic CL's where we have paid as little as £4 a night. We also occasionally stay on their sites, this May Exeter Racecourse May bank holiday £23.50 for two nights, last year Much Wenlock £11 a night (part of their "always £11" scheme) which has some lovely sites.

Yes they have their rules regarding pitching, but it's only to keep people away from your own "space" and stop people arguing "get orff my land!". Sometimes though it's difficult to understand the rules re pitching andit has been known for people to move the little white marker posts so everything is ticketty boo :-)

To add to the confusion this year the pitch marker posts have changed and there are now 5 different types! lordy lordy!

If you like the CC stay if you don't like it leave please stop whingeing.

A group of us, 3 families in motorhomes decided to meet up at a club site-what a mistake, a very indifferent warden who just insisted we parked our vehicles the 'right' way round. Toilet blocks that are inadequate for the number of pitches and when your turn comes to use the shower you are made to hurry as they want to close them for cleaning. Why don't they do it in the afternoon when the majority of people are off site?

'No that's the way its done'!

I prefer to support CS/CLs especially as you are made welcome some CLs have even welcomed us with tea and home made cake, because we' drove a long way'. These so called 'club' or more correctly businesses operate like Costco, but without the customer care`. Buy insurance or any financial product and they are all over you like a rash but attempt to relax with you pastime, only if you obey the rules!

5 unit CLs don't find it necessary to close ablutions mid morning and in fact the right people will clean up after using them.

In our 1st year of motorhoming we joined the C&CC and were given a one night site voucher , whist touring the Yorkshire Dales using temp holiday sites we decided to have a look at the great waterfall near Barnard Castle . We checked the sites book and found the C&CC site at Barnard Castle , great we thought that will be ideal. We rolled up about 11.45 and was told to come back after 12.30pm if we wanted a site , so I just stopped where I was until 12.30 much to the annoyance of the head warder sorry warden. After 12.30 I went into reception and his 1st question was Have you booked ? NO I was just passing and wanted a pitch for the night not familiar with the rules I wasn't aware I had to book . After a bit of tut tutting  he said he thought he could fit us in ( the site was more than half empty ) then the best was to come when I gave him my " Free " voucher to pay for the pitch he nearly had a siesure. We have never used a C&CC site since only temp holiday sites where we have been made more than welcome.

Good job it wasn't a CC site the warden would have had you in the stocks for parking on his hallowed ground.

On the whole C&CC wardens are a much friendlier lot than CC wardens.

Wherever we go in France, Germany, Itay, Belgium, Holland etc., always made to feel welcome not so on CC sites in the UK I think they must breed the wardens to be complete a**e holes. :D

It was definitely a Caravan Club site the one at Moreton in Marsh and they did allocate us the pitch as it was the last one!! We knew it gets full so that is why we booked. Why don't they keep a hardstanding for a motorhome when the weather is bad as they know the size and weight of the motorhome when you book and you would think they would not want the grass messed up.The problem saving the hardstanding for a caravan and had even given a hardstanding to a caravan owner to park their Range Rover on. There was two with bollards on but nothing wrong with the pitch -yes it might not have the electricity working but there is always another socket. It definitely seemed to us that they wanted us to go somewhere else and if there had been another site within easy walk of the village.

It is not the first time we have had trouble other occasions this year have included being told they only had the most expensive pitches but managed to find us standard pitch when we said we would go elsewhere, another site that could not promise us hardstanding but was half empty, one that would not let us stay because we had not prebooked and one that closed before 5pm so that he was shut before we got there.

We have had some nice sites and some nice wardens so we are not tarring everyone with the same brush and we know how hard a warden's job can be because we have done it, all we are asking is that they use some common sense!

What these warders sorry wardens forget is that as members we are shareholders of the said club and in effect they are our indirect employee's , because without members there would not be a club and no work for these jobsworth and watch out for the one's with a ponytail as under every tail there is an ar***e.

22 years a member, 5 as a tugger, 17 as a motorhomer. Never had a problem with any wardens or on site. I've had many wonderful holidays on the CC sites in beautiful surroundings.

Prices are rising - even on CLs - and the CC does seem to have a problem working out whether it is a business or a club for its members. I'm free to leave when the CC stops meeting my needs.

I would love to be a Warden. After hearing so much about them being little hitlers on all forums I think it would be a great challange.

I have always wanted a job making peoples holidays great ones. I work in IT. Its been a lucrative career until recently but soleless and more often these days thankless. I hate it with a vengance now.

Would pack it in tomorrow for anything motorhome or travel related where I can help people enjoy themselves.

I think I might be a bit crap at repairing stuff but as far as customer service and looking after my guests is concerned I would go out of my way to help them and ensure they were happy..

You can invent a whole load of boring reasons why you are putting it off again and again and again. the before you know it, you're too old and frail to do it.

Your forgetting one thing though! The Look!

The Look is what I get from Mrs D whenever I suggest anything remotely different or outside her comfort zone which is pretty rich seeing as from 2008-2012 we spent over two years of that time skiving off work and touring Europe!

We will see.

Maybe she doesnt want to be the grumpy one cleaning the bogs! :-D

If Mrs D version 1.01 no longer operates as required, it is actually relatively easy to delete that early version, and install instead a significantly newer and more user-friendly, and indeed far more satisfying (ahem!) version 2.0.

Just returned from our regular grand tour of Scotland - as normal we stayed at the CC site at Altnaharra. We normally purchase bottled water for drinking purposes , but this time we forgot so my good lady toddled up to the warden's office to buy a bottle. We could not believe the price £1.80 - on examination of the label we found that it had been bought by the wardens from Llidl. On returning home I visited the local Llidl today to find the same bottle of water was on sale for 25p.!! THATS WARDENS LOOKING AFTER THE MEMBERS - OR SHOULD I SAY THEMSELVES !

I know it is off topic but serves you right for buying water. Nothing wrong with tap water and often better than bottled. You were lucky it actually came from Lidl I have heard of cases where it comes from the local supply anyway. (lol)

I have not used this forum much - only posted one question previously.

I thought that I might learn something useful or be amongst like minded people.

But reading this thread makes me sad. I don't think I have ever read such bigoted, drivel before. Some people obviously have 'set' views about things and are prepared to recount them endlessly to anyone who will listen.

Grow up. If you don't like the Clubs - leave.

But please let's not try to ascribe attributes to all after an experience with one.

If this is the level of discussion on this forum then I won't be back. :-(

Lighten up it's only a bit of fun, if you don't like a thread why read it in the first place and then have the cheek to complain about it.

If you go it's your loss an awesome amount of good technical advice on here.
