Noodles Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 Morning Everyone, I have just submitted an e-petition on the governments websites calling for councils to provide overnight parking facilities for motorhomers and to raise height barriers on car parks during the day. It will take 7 days for the petition to appear online. I have put it under the heading of 'British Aires' making it easier to search for. No idea if there 's an existing petition did look couldn't find one. As soon as I have confirmation its been approved will let everyone know. I have seen the campaign on here started by MMM. So please add your signature :D
lennyhb Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 Well done, I look forward to signing it, although a big task to get the 100,000 signatures required to get a hearing in parliament.
derek pringle Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 Hi Noodles, Well done, I no we will definitely sign it cheers derek
nowtelse2do Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 The thread needs to go on other forums also. Good Luck. Dave
snowie Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 Well done Noodles; can I suggest you email MMM and ask them to publicise the petition in the magazine when you know it's going to happen? And any other mag you can. all the best alan b
Guest pelmetman Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 Just a suggestion ;-)...........and I don't know if they can vote? :-S..............but input from maybe French, German etc motor home forums might be useful :D

Totally free and un-interupted legal wild camping here anywhere you want to stop and park basically! Maybe that's why a 4* site is only €12 per night for a serviced pitch Mike
terryW Posted May 22, 2013 Posted May 22, 2013 When it's up post a link Noodles the easier it is to find the more hits you are likely to get. And many thanks
AliB Posted May 22, 2013 Posted May 22, 2013 A great effort and i will sign the petition. But have a realistic look at the possibility of reach 100K signatures. The total number of motorhomes registered in the UK is about 140,000. Many of those prefer to use big sites and would not want an" Aire" type scheme. I am not sure of the circulation figures for MMM, 30,000 would be my guess. So some wide thinking on how to reach more potential people is required. Foreign motorhome visitors to the UK really struggle to find overnight parking. Especially as they may not be a member of one of the clubs and have access to CL/CS sites. Germany, 440,000 registered motorhomes, France 200,000 Italy 250,000 Add that to the UK figures and you now have a target audience of over one million. So achieving 100,00 signatures is looking more achievable. Somebody needs to come up with ways to contact the Europeans. German organisations like ADAC and the French equivalent spring to mind. I am sure if the government/tourist office saw a scheme that attract foreign visitors they would be impressed. I don't know if non UK residents can sign a UK e-petition. If not an alternative method to highlight the issues are needed. Any campaign needs a good title. We use the words aodpted from our European friends Aire, Stellplatz. These words mean nothing to the average UK resident. Someone needs to come up with a good British sounding word to describe an overnight park for motorhomes. If this e-petition is to succeed it needs a lot of promotion work. Sorry, I work full time so do not have the free time.
Derek Uzzell Posted May 23, 2013 Posted May 23, 2013 This petition is now on-line: http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/50323 From the "Sign this e-petition" webpage it's evident that 'foreigners' are permitted to sign it. (I'm a bit surprised that the Responsible Department relating to this petition would be the Department for Transport. I would have thought it would be the Department for Culture, Media & Sport that deals with 'tourism'. Perhaps it doesn't matter...)
AliB Posted May 23, 2013 Posted May 23, 2013 The link works for me. The last similar petition was somewhat short of the 100,000 mark. http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/27376
lennyhb Posted May 23, 2013 Posted May 23, 2013 The last one doesn't make it look very encouraging and only 4 signatures on the new one so far including me.
derek pringle Posted May 23, 2013 Posted May 23, 2013 Hi Noodles, Sorry for what may be my ignorance but why is the petition closed ? cheers derek
crinklystarfish Posted May 23, 2013 Posted May 23, 2013 Commendable effort but, as many times before, the way to get this going is via 'Visit Britain': http://www.visitbritain.org/ They have a statutory responsibility to increase / enhance tourism. As Derek says, the Department for Culture, Media & Sport oversees this operation.
jocie Posted May 23, 2013 Posted May 23, 2013 Derek's link worked for me as I have signed it and had an acknowledgement. (lol)
hughman Posted May 23, 2013 Posted May 23, 2013 This is the link - I've just signed via it. http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/50323 The one in AliB's post is the old dead one.
Noodles Posted May 23, 2013 Author Posted May 23, 2013 derek pringle - 2013-05-23 9:33 AM Hi Noodles, Sorry for what may be my ignorance but why is the petition closed ? cheers derek Hi Derek, Petition doesn't close till 22nd May 2014.
Noodles Posted May 23, 2013 Author Posted May 23, 2013 Perhaps we could all get our families and friends to sign the petition that may swell numbers. Thank you all for the positive feedback I will do what I can to succeed :D
Noodles Posted May 23, 2013 Author Posted May 23, 2013 Link is epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/50323
Noodles Posted May 23, 2013 Author Posted May 23, 2013 I have just emailed my local MEP and put my case to him to see if he will help get other Europeans motorhome organisations onboard......may as well go up the ladder if it's to make an impact. Will let everyone know the response when I get one. :D
Guest pelmetman Posted May 23, 2013 Posted May 23, 2013 I've just signed it and the number of signatures stayed the same? :-S
