dawki
Hi All I am off to France in early June for about 3 weeks but not sure where to make for this time. My wife and I like to cycle and do some walking, we have been to France 4 or 5 times and with a few tips from you guys have had a great time on each trip. We have been along the North coast, the West coast( La Rochelle, Il de re, il deloren) and the Dordogne(Beynac area) last year. I am not sure wether to go back and explore some more of the Dordogne area or have look more towards the south east of France maybe inland a bit ,but not sure I would really appreciate any tips for a scenic area to head for plus sites/aires many thanks in advance
malc d
For cycling, have you thought of the Canal du Midi region ? ....and while you are down there you may like a visit to the old walled city of Carcassonne.
lennyhb
If you like walking the Massif Central is a must, absolutely fabulous ridge walks that are easy to access & not to many tourists. Far enough south for good weather.

When we did the route of the high alps a couple of years ago we spent a few days here and are going back this year. It is pretty far south so chance of good weather, not nearly as many people as in the northern alps. Fantastic scenary around places like Ste. Martin. You could also do the Route de la Bonette, highest road in europe, in that region. If you are aires user afraid their are very few but some decent ACSI camp sites. Another great area with a good chance of sun is around the Gorge of Verdon, in fact you could do both in three weeks.

Barryd999
What about the French Alps? Annecy and the areas around there are stunning and there are cycle paths around part of the lake and of course plenty of walking areas either low down or up in the mountains. Further south east the Verdon Gorges are simply stunning and your a stones throw from Lac St Croix which is fantastic.

dawki
Hi all Just back a couple of days ago, I ended going to Lake Annecy as some suggested my trip had to be slightly shorter than planed plus that area seemed to have the best weather forecast, so this seemed a good option. We had a great trip to Anncey and will hope to go to some of the other suggested places on my next trip many thanks everybody for there suggestions
Retread24800
I know this is a bit late but Many people have heard about the Dordogne, however many visitors have not realised just how much there is to see and do in the Department. Several guides are available to download for free from the tourist office there's an overview in English, res.franceguide.com/uk/NT/brochure.pdf#xtor=AL-1 which we share with the Scots, Irish, Welsh and colonials. as well as some that have not been translated but never the less are easy to understand and add a wealth of information on Walks, bike rides swimming camping or WHY i.e www.dordogne-perigord-tourisme.fr/administration/cdt24/images/file/Documentation/Guide_Loisirs_Nature_2012.pdf
