faulty gas hob burner help please

Has anyone experienced this please:

One of the gas burners on our hob has started to mis-beheave, It is making what can best be described as a "hissing" sound when burning and instead of regular blue flames coming our from where they are supposed to around the ring, there is a yellow / orange tinge to the flames and some gas / flames are escaping from underneath the ring (if that makes sense).

There must be a blockage of some sort but as we are in the middle Norway right now i wondered if anyone has any tips on a fix before we venture to a dealer. The other 2 burners are working fine.

Thanks in advance.

Try taking the bit on top of the hob apart and give it a clean................there's normally two bits, an enamel top and a cast ally bit that spreads the flame ;-)

What make of burner is it - being 'foreign' - I have not come across it before?

Dave may well be right about cleaning it, although given it's young age I would be surprised if it is that mucky unless you are very heavy users.

Could be a partially blocked gas jet - but If you have doubts about safety or smell any unusual aromas best not to use it.

Jets used to be removable but tend to be fixed these days and should only be cleaned with compressed air - nothing metallic.

In the old days there used to be an air bleed aperture under the burners which sometimes could be adjusted by either a nut and bolt or a sliding metal spring clip - probably not these days as anything user adjusted is a nono these days - but maybe worth a quick look?

I may be on the wrong track - but I tried!!

How is Norway this year - wish we were there too - lovely country - lovely people - has it stopped snowing yet!!

Sounds like something may have boiled over and got into the burner blocking the airway and there is not enough air mixing with the gas jet. Nothing that a good clean shouldn't sort out. There is usually a couple of screws that hold the flame spreader on, easy to remove then give it a good clean out and let it dry thoroughly before lighting.

A 2012 Adria Sport 572 SL will have a Dometic/Cramer "Kombi" 3-burner hob and sink. There's an example (not identical to the design used on the Adria) here

and general operating instructions here:

It may be that simply cleaning the problematical hob-burner will provide a cure (though my Hobby has a Cramer unit with a similar design of hob and you'd have to try fairly hard to cause 'muck' to block the burners). As lennyhb advises, there are two small screws attaching the 'head' of each hob-burner.

Thank you for all your responses, I'll take advantage of a rainy day today to try and clean it.

Tracker: Norway is lovely, weather has been very warm - until today that is - no snow but the rivers and lakes are very full (flood warnings in effect)...

Cheers

Problem solved, it turns out the underside of the cover which mounts on top of the flame spreader was badly corroded on its underside. Large flakes of rust had accumulated on two burners actually, preventing the gas from coming up from the injector properly.

I guess we need to be extra careful with water when using the sink but still, not a great piece of design given that the van is just over a year old only.

Cheers

Bit odd about the rust, as the current advertising for Cramer hobs claims that they have "stainless steel burner caps".

In my experience the most common cause of hob burners getting clogged up is excessive cleaning, especially with products such as CIF or similar. DO NOT USE these cleaners around the burners, they cause more problems than leaving it to get dirty would. The problem is some people try to clean the hob with a sponge/scrubber and apply the cleaning agent directly to the burner, it gets forced into the flame apertures and dries out to form a crusty mess plus excess water gets pushed down into the actual jet causing even more corrosion and blockage. This may not be the case in this particular instance but its worth mentioning all the same.
