Over 70 Driving Licence

Recommended Posts

I am now aged 73 and did not apply for a C1 (UP TO 7.5 TON) driving license when I reached 70. Can anyone please let me know if I can still apply and any details of the medical would be much appreciated.

Also any indication of the cost (private doctor consultation I assume.) and time scale. Regards

Hi . If my memory is correct, you have Two choices . 1 :- If you have not run out of time to do so. Prove to the DVLA that you held that licence before you were 70. If you can prove that, you will need a full eye test and a D4 medical report, cost at the discretion of the Doctor.ie £70 - £200 submit that with a D2 form to the DVLA . 2 :- Fill in a D2 form, submit that with the medical report and take a new driving test.

Hi you can apply as I did but must warn you not to expect it to be sorted quickly. I applied in August and Didnt get it sorted until the following May. I did not have to take a test though and our Doctor charged £85. Have now decided its not worth the effort and changing van to one with more payload. Good luck!

If you want to keep the cost of the medical down and you live near a large city, phone a local HGV operator and ask them who they use and how much they pay.

There is a lot of difference for medicals, round here it is over a £100, near Brum a lot less. :-D
