Hi Shy Anne and welcome to the forum madhouse!

Try emailing Sargents as they are very helpful and will not sell you a new panel if you don't need it.

But first try disconnecting the multiplug from the back of the control panel and replugging it after a short interval - can't remember how long but a couple of minutes ought to do if it is going to. That has been known to reset the panel, although in my experience once it starts it's malarky it's only a matter of time before it packs up and for the sake of the reasonable cost probably not worth the risk of being powerless in a foreign land!

I'm not complaining, grumbling or making an issue, but for reference, I think the hints and tips section was meant for sharing hints and tips rather than asking for hints and tips and this request is much better suited to the motorhome matters section - not that it matters much as most people will see it wherever you plonk it!

...I'm not complaining, grumbling or making an issue, but for reference, I think the hints and tips section was meant for sharing hints and tips rather than asking for hints and tips and this request is much better suited to the motorhome matters section - not that it matters much as most people will see it wherever you plonk it!

The Hints and Tips (H&T) forum was introduced in July 2006.

On the face of it this was a 'Good Idea', but it should have been apparent that the structure of the Out&AboutLive (O&AL) forums (and the way people were using them) would conflict with the H&T's objectives.

In March 2008 I PMed Mark Sutcliffe (who was then forum Moderator) as follows:

"As I understand it, the Hints and Tips forum was introduced to carry hints and tips provided by motorcaravanners for motorcaravanners.

However, although there's the occasional hint/tip posted proactively to the Hints and Tips forum, much of the time motorhome-related inquiries get posted to it that would be far better placed on the Motorhome Matters forum where they would receive more attention. (Frankly, why people do this is beyond me, but there you go!!)

Now, it seems to me that there are 3 possible ways to improve matters:

1. The 'caption' of the Hints and Tips forum is modified to reflect its purpose more fully.

2. A 'sticky' is placed at the start of the forum advising people of the forum's design purpose.

3. When a person 'mis-posts' to the Hints and Tips forum, then the Moderator moves the posting to the Motorhome Matters forum (which, I would have thought, is one of the normal forum Moderator tasks in any case).

At present it's just plain messy, with Hints and Tips inquiry-type postings either being largely ignored or repetition of advice to the poster that he/she would be better off asking his/her question on the Motorhome Matters forum."

The 'caption' of the H&T forum was altered - but not for the better!!! - and I PMed Mark again in April 2008.

"As Brian Kirby's and my own comments in the "HOW TO USE THE HINTS AND TIPS MOTORHOME FORUM" thread (now 'stuck' at the top of that forum's listing) directly conflict with the Hints and Tips explanatory caption on the forum homepage and with Warners' stated objective (misguided in my opinion, though I can appreciate the thinking behind it) for that forum as stated within that thread itself, could you please delete the thread? There's no point adding additional confusion to something that was already confusing."

A you rightly say, the original objective of the H&T forum was to share HINTS and TIPS, not to make inquiries, but you'll note that the H&T's caption actually says "Seek out advice or pass on recommendations...".

In 2008 I asked how seeking out advice could possibly equate to the forum's hints/tips objective and was told that a response to an inquiry could be result in a hint/tip. I believe my reply was that this stance seemed to make the Motorhome Matters forum pretty much redundant and, if semantics were to be mutilated in that way, I wasn't going to argue further.

Since then, inquiries (like Cheyenne's) have been posted to the H&T forum (which, based on the H&T's "Seek out advice" caption is exactly the right place for them) or to the Motorhome Matters forum (which, based on that forum's "Log on for friendly chat with hundreds of motorhome enthusiasts like yourself" caption is, strictly speaking, a less suitable place for an inquiry).

It's well recognised by long-term forum members that Motorhome Matters is the main O&AL motorhome forum and will attract a larger 'readership' than the H&T forum. New forum members' H&T inquiries are regularly directed to Motorhome Matters (as you've done) despite H&T being the 'correct' place for them according to the H&T's caption. This can result in the same inquiry being dealt with simultaneously on both forums, which is inefficient and can be irritating.

If the H&T forum's caption read something like "Share your motorhome hints and tips" and the Motorhome Matters forum's caption read "Seek out advice and discuss motorhome-related matters with enthusiasts like yourself", the differences between the two forums' purposes would be clearer.

The simple fact is, though, that the introduction of the motorhome H&T forum back in 2006 was unnecessary and the alteration of the H&T's caption to its current form irrational.

Hi 'Clara', I see you've now moved from the USA to Australia.

What's your interest in this forum, please, as nothing you've ever posted seems to have had any relevance to motor caravans?
