Dave Newell
It really would be nice to know if AGD got his turbo sorted and whether any of our suggestions were fruitful. D.
Archiesgrandad
Hello, and thank you for your suggestions, and apologies for the delay in giving you an update. by the time I got back to the garage they had managed to find someone to rebuild the turbo, so my input was not needed, but thank you, someone else will need help and a thread now exists. the rebuild cost £485 +VAT and the labour was 8 hours, I felt it could have been worse. The real problem was the time it took them. We did notget the van back until last Sunday. I have used this garage for a number of years to service all our motorhomes and the RV and do the MOT's, and because they ran a nightshift I could take the van in and fetch it back at any time I found convenient, I would have recommended them to anyone, and the guy who looked after me was a really nice guy, but, when I popped in to arrange to take the van in on this occasion, I failed to notice a sign high up on the wall announcing that they had been taken over by a large group. I also asked if I could take it in late on Sundy evening and they said yes, but there wouldn't be anyone there , so just leave it on the drive and put the keys in the letterbox, I have done that before. The van was in there for a week before they even started to work on it, and it was 6 days to get the turbo rebuilt, they then did nothing for 14 days. I would go in to check up on the progress and find nothing done, and on the first occasion that I asked them why work had not been started the new manager got all stroppy and offered to put all the bits in a box so that I could get it done elsewhere. As that was not really a practical solution I just had to resort to being nice to them and pleading with them to start work. As I said I think the cost was about right, and the van is running nicely now, but it took a month. The reason for our urgency was that much as we love the old Hymer, we actually found one that we like even better, and had put a deposit on it until we could sell the old one. For Sale one lovely old Hymer on which we have spent a fortune that we do not expect to recover, but we enjoyed our annual holiday in the old thing last year, more that any other van we have owned, so who cares? I did try to respond to you a couple of days age, writing a similar missive on my Asus E Pad Tablet, but there seems to be a problem with the Android operating system on it, and the Wifi gubbins in the house, and if I try to submit a reply of more than 4 or 5 lines to this forum, it simply will not submit it, so I have had to rewrite the whole thing on my gas powered IBM laptop. If I go and use the free Wifi at Macdonalds it works fine, but that is generally too high a price to pay, and everthings else, ie, email and any other internet access seems fine, it is only this forum that gives me trouble. If anyone has any thoughts about this I would be gratefull. Please be advised that my son has assured me that I am a complete "technoprat" , and have little ,if any understanding of how to do anything to a computer. Again, many thanks for your help, and for your concern. I am touched. The garage is Reliance Auto in Slough, and the large group is Automania.
