Bojitoes
Hi All I have had a look at campsite finder but it does not really give me the answer I need so hoping for personal knowledge & experience. We have to go to dinner at a hotel in central London next month and I am looking to find a campsite or CL that is located very near to either a tube or railway station or bus stop. We are looking for somewhere that we would feel safe enough coming back to on public transport at 10.30 / 11pm and where there is no long walk in the dark. Your help appreciated as always thanks Bob
sss
Henlow Bridge Lakes is next to the station that is direct in to Kings Cross. The only other ones I can recommend are a short taxi ride from the station.

Guest JudgeMental
Crystal palace. You can get a bus to Brixton and jump on the tube or walk to crystal palace train station and get a train to Victoria (approx 20 mins). The Triangle itself has a great selection of bars and restaurants

teflon2
Be careful any campsites that you stay at are going to be in the LEZ zone if you are not eligible it costs £100.00 per day or a massive fine if you ignore it. John (?) The C&CC have a good one but it's just inside the zone.

Guest JudgeMental
Chertsey is hardly London...Plus Bobs van is a 2009 model so hardly a problem
Brian Kirby
JudgeMental - 2013-06-04 7:03 AM Crystal palace. The Triangle itself has a great selection of bars and restaurants Agreed! Approx GPS N51.42608 W0.07414 Entrance from Old Cople Lane, off Crystal Palace Parade. Inside the LEZ, but well outside the charging zone. Check your reg No on the TfL LEZ web pages. You could walk across the park going out - just over half a mile to the station. Not sure about when you return, as the park used to close just after senset. You'd also need to check last train times for the day, just in case, but they seem to run with reasonable frequency until past midnight weekdays (but check whether a day return can be used past midnight). teflon2
Chertsey is just inside the M25 LEZ zone 30mins by train from the centre of London didn't know the van was 2009 but it pays to check online as they are going to keep reducing the emissions criteria. John (^) Last time I stayed at Chertsey, a year ago maybe, they said it was outside the LEZ, and a search on Google reveals a couple of posts on Wild Camping, posted May 2013, that they used Chertsey to avoid paying the LEZ. gwyn
There is a campsite at Picketts Lock near Edmonton. A bus goes from outside the campsite where there is also a leisure complex and cinema to Edmonton and the train station, underground and bus station. Archiesgrandad
Chertsey is within the M25 but is not part of Greater London so is not within the LEZ. As a matter of principal I would not take any motorhome into London until they exempt all registered motorhomes. Why spend your money there when they don't even want us. Bojitoes
Hi Just an update to say that we spent 3 nights at the Picketts Lock / Lee Valley campsite recommended by Gwynn. An excellent site, only £19.00 per night including electric. Very helpful staff and great for travelling into London- average journey time seemed to be about 45 minutes. Facilities are good but could be on the limit when site is crowded. We will definitely use this site again Thanks Bob
