pepe63xnotuse
Hi all... I wonder if anyone has any thoughts/knowledge on the following: The batteries from our little Olympus camera(they're the little "after 8 mint" sized things),don't seem to hold their charge for very long anymore...that is if the charger is actually putting the full amount in to start with...? The batteries and charger are all branded as "Olympus" and as everything is about 4-5 years old now,I thought a new charger and batteries would be in order..... Has anyone any thoughts on the merit/or not, of sticking with the "branded" kit?..or would cheaper "ebay" type stuff be just as good? (..they probably all come out of the same Chinese sweat shop, anyhow *-) ) Thanks Edit: Well..having just seen the price of some of them, I've just bought a couple of "unbranded" batteries off ebay..at £5.99 for the pair, inc delivery,it's probably daft not to try 'em :$
BGD
Unbranded, ebay-style replacements for us, everytime. Own-brand big names do not make components duch as batteries. They simply buy in from subcontractors, usually from China as the environmental controls there are much looser there (and batteries use a load of pretty horrid things in their production)

I'll give these batteries go...and if they don't seem to last, then I'll assume it's the charger not putting enough in. ;-) (..unless the camera is faulty and is draining the batteries prematurely?...Mind you,it doesn't help when the missus keeps looking through what we've taken all the time! *-) ) Anyway, thanks for responding. BGD
The other thing to be aware of is that rechargeable batteries, even the lithium ion ones, don't go on forever. The amount by which they can be recharged, and the length of time that they will hold that charge for, both fall over time and with the number of recharges carried out. I have replaced the rechargeable batteries in several mobile phones, in several solar powered lights, in laptops and also in our tomtom 720 sat nav. All changed for nonbranded ebay sourced batteries and all with good operation aftetwards. Even if thength of life of these nonbranded batteries is not as long as the Nokia etc badged versions, the purchase price saving is usually so great as to still make them a better buy.
