EuraMobil , A class windscreen price surprise.

Found a small chip in the lower part of the windscreen on my EuraMobil Integra 810 (A class) windscreen.

Can be repaired but thought I would get a price for a new windscreen having heard that they can be £3000 or more as they are a big windscreen.

I have had a written quote from PSV glass of £856 supply only or £1,174 fitted

This surprised me, I thought it would be a lot more.

They specialise in commercial glass for buses coaches, trains motorhomes and commercial vehicles.

The quote also states ' In Stock' which was another surprise.

result...but doesn't your insurance cover it

Yes I think it does but initially I was interested in the availability having heard that it could take months to source one. At least I have found that they are available from specialist suppliers (and the price) so I can now tell the insurance company if needed as I suspect they will initially go to Autoglass who may not be able to source one or indeed have it in stock

Thanks Dave, great info. Link to PSV glass http://tinyurl.com/mvmvbml who also say they will come to you to fix the new screen if required.

Yes Brian, They were really helpful as well, even asked for some photos to make sure they got the right information..

Perhaps the stories about very expensive A class windscreens may not be so bad after all, especially if you have to pay and not an insurance job.

I wonder what Autoglass would have charged.

Thanks for the link, I,m not clever enough to be able to do that but their website is quite reassuring

A word of warning to anyone with, or thinking of getting, an older, or perhaps rarer A-class motorhome...................

You might want to check beforehand whether a spare windscreen for your vehicle actually exists at all, regardless of how many thousand pounds it'll cost you to buy/fit it if needed.

I discovered, when checking/researching as a precaution after hearing a horror story from another older A-class motorhomer on a Spanish motorhome forum, that for my 1992 Autostar Ariel A-class motorhome, there are no spare windscreens.

I don't mean they are difficult to source. Or only available from some French factory.

I mean there are none.

They do not exist any longer; not at all.

In the event of a windscreen failure, our entire motorhome would essentially have been a complete and total write-off.

I am VERY glad to now be back driving a non-A-class, with a bog standard 2001 Fiat Ducato 2.8JTD chassis cab, where spares cost tuppence, servicing is a piece of cake, and all parts are immediately available all over Europe.

I have been told (but not confirmed) that the Euramobil Integra windscreen is the same as an Iveco Eurocargo lorry which might explain why they are available

It would make sense for a motorhome manufacturer to use a windscreen that was available for other makes or they would have to have windscreens manufactured solely for them which I guess would be costly
