nightrider
If Britain and America kept their noses out of other countries affairs, they are not the worlds policemen, perhaps the world would be a more peaceful place? if Shia and Sunni Muslims have their problems let them fight it out without us getting involved and spending billions of pounds which should go to our own people, if for example you are a Muslim and came over here for a better quality of life for your family what would you think if you saw on TV a news clip of the village that you were born in and members of your extended family killed in bombing raids, your love for the English would soon disappear. Dave225
I would also agree that we spend far too much time and money in things that are of no concern to us. If we wish to stop terrorism then start within the boundaries of the UK for that is where the majority of the nutters live. While I also feel the US has some admirable qualities I fail to see why we always seem to wish to be their poodle desperate for attention. There are time when I feel we are the 51st State and that possibly we would do better if we actually became that. All we get at the moment is the worst of all worlds. nightrider
I put up a post sometime ago saying that I thought Britain was a shambolic broken country, a country that has given its all to the world and we end up like this? Who is responsible, not me, not you or anyone I know, the ones responsible are the ones who should know better but are only content with ripping us off and feathering their own nests, they get away with it due to the laid back British attitude, one day the volcano will erupt in a night of the long knives. John 47
knight of the road - 2013-06-17 2:12 AM I put up a post sometime ago saying that I thought Britain was a shambolic broken country, a country that has given its all to the world and we end up like this? I agree with most of what you and everybody else has said on this thread so far but I would suggest that one of the reasons why this country keeps poking its nose in where it is not wanted is because of attitudes similar to the one you express in the quoted sentence. Britain did not give its all to the world; for the most part it was out to expand its power, influence and wealth - and those who lead us still seem to be of the same mindset. Its about time our government (of whatever political persuasion) realised that we are not a world power any more and stopped trying to behave like one. But it is not likely to happen, is it - Cameron and Hague are now talking about arming the Syrian opposition - an opposition that is widely recognised as containing Al Qaeda! John, Yes Britain over the centuries gave her all to the rest of the world, but by the same token nobody gives anything for nothing do they? there is always a price to pay. You'll have to explain what you mean by Britain "giving her all". To me, that phrase implies altruism - and a certain degree of paternalism too. I cannot see what Britain "gave" other than in return for what would benefit Britain and other than what any other colonial power "gave".
