trumatic c3402 problem

This earlier thread relates to a current-model Truma 'combinatiion' heater, but the effect (the intake/exhaust outer cowl being damaged as a result of a 'misfire') sounds similar to what's happened to you.

Your Trumatic C-3402 appliance must be at least 10 years old and the "sooty deposit" suggests its gas-burner is not burning cleanly. It may be worth you checking that the inner and outer trunkings of the heater's intake/exhaust are tightly attached at both ends and that there's no rubbish (like spiders' webs) inside the trunkings.

Your best bet would be to contact the Truma(UK) technicians for advice.
