izzywhit
I have an Elddis Autoquest 100 2008 on a series 3 Boxer. Has anyone had Fuse 35 in the cab fusebox blowing randomly ( in the handbook it says this fuse is for reversing lights and water in fuel sensor, but it also controls power steering, airflow sensor and other things ). I put a fuse in and the van can run ok for a few weeks then with no warning the power steering and reversing light stop working and the fuse has blown. I really do not know where to go with this fault as I can put a fuse in go to a the garage and the fuse will be intact so they can't find the fault. Has anybody experienced this problem ? lennyhb
I would check every connection that is associated with this fuse, it is possible there is a loose or poor connection that is arcing. With any luck you may find a connector with tell tale signs of arcing otherwise all you can do is make sure all the connections are tight, problem is more likely to be with items that draw higher current. Another thing to look for is the condition of the loom is it rubbing anywhere it passes through metalwork it could be shorting to chassis occasionally with driving vibration. euroserv
Hello Izzywhit, First of all I have to ask; how does a fuse stop the power steering working? Anyway.... The first thing I would check is that there is no damage and therefore no water ingress causing corrosion in your rear lamp unit where the reverse lamp is located. Next you should check the connectors to the fuel filter and make sure they are secure and free of corrosion. Failing that you have probably got a short in the wiring loom not too far away from the fuse box. You will need to remove some of the insulation that covers the bundle of wires and may be lucky and see some green corrosion and a bare wire or two. It is a common problem with X250's to have a wiring short although it normally manifests itself as a 'glow plug fault' as these wires seem to be the most vulnerable. The wiring loom supplied with the power unit from Peugeot is just as likely to have these faults as the ones for Fiat power units. The rather haphazard assembly of these vehicles in Italy is probably to blame, but they could be better protected to begin with. Nick
izzywhit
Thanks for your replies and I will carry on looking at the wiring. The power steering is electrically controlled on these vehicles. The feed for the proportional valve and control ecu for the power steering is from fuse 35. The emissions warning light also comes on when this fuse blows as the airflow sensor is fed from the same fuse as is the water in diesel sensor. So you can see that to narrow down the fault is quite a task as there are so many things fed and getting at the wiring is a job for a contortionist. I just thought that someone else might have had the same symptoms and managed to cure it so that I would know which area to investigate. I think it might need to got to the local Peugeot dealer but that is going to cost big time I am sure.
