Tomtom POI icons issue

Hi, I bought a Tomtom XXL Classic Western Europe to replace/supplement my ageing (but still great) Tomtom One V3, mainly for the larger screen. lane guidance and the fact that all of WE fits on the device whereas, on the One, this has to sectioned up due to this map now having more detail and, presumably, covering more states?

Anyhow, got it all set up fine and then added my POI sets for CC, C&CC, ACSI, Aires etc etc.

All looked OK until you get to the browse map function (which I often use to navigate to a point/POI), when I noticed that some of the icons we displaying incorrectly.

In fact, they were so badly displayed that you couldnt tell what it was supposed to represent.

I called Tomtom who said that they would investigate at a technical level, and asked me to send them one icon which was OK and was that wasn't. A few days later I got an email asking me if I was happy with the resolution to my issue! Not.

Anyway, we were off to France and managed OK using the One to confirm our destination POIs and using the XXL for navigating, which was fine with a bigger display.

I did some Googling and it seemed that there had been a change in the Operating System at some point which caused a problem with icons sized at 22 x 22 pixels.

What was strange was that all my icons were this size yet only some failed. The CC icons ALL worked yet the C&CC only Some worked, yet same size. Same story with the different types of Aire icons.

I decided to resize all the C&CC and Aires icons to 24 x 24 pixels and LO!!!! they all worked.

Dont know if anyone else has had this issue on a recent Tomtom but this resizing seems to be the cure.

Not sure if Tomtom will fix the bug in their software or tell POI creators that there is a problem.......doubt it. Probably leave it to us poor users to resolve.

Interesting, XXL is actualy quite an old system, but I guess has been updated, I rejected one couple of years back as I wanted whole of europe and after the first update it could only hold western europe, anyway I digress.

On my Via125 the C&CC icons display as a red square, on contacting TT they asked for files which I sent and they said they displayed fine,we could not come to any agreement on this problem, this was two years back and it seems they still haven't solved it at TT.

My via is at 'new house' but will try this at weekend and see what happens

Colin, the thread that I got the clue from was this one where the OP had the same issue as you on a Via.

Hope this helps, it was driving me bonkers, especially as I worked in IT and just couldn't let this go until I resolved it..........................I could have just dumped the unit, I suppose.

Yes, it is an older model but I got it for under £90 so i was happy (now!).

Yes if you want western europe on sat nav XXL is good, also I think you can pick up one of the older type traffic alert add-ons off ebay cheap, unlike my via which needs an annual sub.

Just found the files on this pute, and the C&CC icons are 22x22, but oddly so are Archies which display ok, but then you say you had some of yours in 22x22 which displayed ok and some not, still I'll have a play this weekend if I get chance.

OK just done this and it works :-D now I can at a glance see if the sites are Club sites, CS's, or Listed sites.

Funny enough the first icon I changed to 24x24 and it worked, then just to see, the next I changed to 20x20 and it too worked fine.

As I've posted on TT, I wonder if it's something to do with pixels per inch as the 'archies europe' which is also 22x22 display perfectly ok, all I know is thanks for sorting out my two year old mystery.
