hymer1942
Morning all, I have a problem with seagulls on my house roof and the Van roof literally destroying everything they can peck including tv aerial cables. Can anyone tell me how to discourage them . Thanks Barrie
Guest pelmetman
You could try throwing a rock at them like we saw someone do here in Cornwall yesterday. Failing that shoot them. SUE

antony1969
You can buy a clear mastic and apply it in strips to area they tend to land most , probably chimney area . The mastic stays uncured and annoys the poor little darlings , think its about an Ayrton Senna per tube though
Keithl
Or how about fixing some Bird Spikes like these Link to the affected areas to stop them landing? keith.
BGD
Summat really evil I was told about years ago:- Any effervescent tablet (alka setzer etc) wrapped tightly into a bread ball and thrown up in the air etc so that the gulls gobble them down, apparently has a rapid and terminal effect....... I don't think so Kelly "Sildenafil (generic name of Viagra) is a drug that is used in dogs and cats with heart and or lung problems that cause increased blood pressure in the arteries of the lungs. This drug is approved for use in human medicine under the trade name of Viagra ®. It is used for the treatment of pulmonary hypertension and erectile dysfunction in men. Pulmonary hypertension refers to abnormally high blood pressure in the arteries of the lungs that forces the right side of the heart to work harder than normal. Sildenafil causes the smooth muscle surrounding small blood vessels in the lungs to relax, decreasing the work load on the heart. Although there are other similar drugs available on the human market, sildenafil has been the most studied in veterinary medicine. Sildenafil has been shown to improve energy, exercise tolerance and overall quality of life in animals with pulmonary hypertension." So the maximum danger would be the dog associating getting a hard on with toffee. Most probably the closest thing to "Doggy Heaven" on the planet. 8-)
Guest pelmetman
So that's how they make that really hard toffee that comes with the little hammer :D
Guest 1footinthegrave
Try throwing whitewash over them, and say "now how do you like it ". ;-) My guess is it's one "rogue" gull though, as I live on the coast and I've never heard of Gulls doing that. George Collings
Reminds me of a long out of print bumper sticker once on sale in South Devon. Keep Brixham tidy- EAT A SEAGULL A DAY. A Devon harbourside cafe owner is handing out high powered water pistols to customers to deter raiding s***e hawks as my old Dad used to call them. Stand by for seagull hugger alert. CliveH
One of my dogs drank my Viagra eye-drops ( does nothing really :-S - just make me look hard (lol) ) and had to call the vet about it 8-) No Mel - the reality is that our lovely old GSD had heart failure towards the end - he died in 2009 - and he was on the doggy dose of Viagra. It did seem to help him. It has many other uses as well - the local old peoples home uses it regularly on its elderly male residents. Stops them falling out of bed for some reason. And apparently some children at Christmas have been known to put a Viagra in the Mince Pie they leave out for Father Christmas. The idea being if they want to see him in the morning - "Let's see him get back up that Chimney after that!!.........................

PHYDAUX
I had a similar problem with wood pigeons leaving a large amount of crap on the house, car and motor home roof, I got rid of them by placing a couple of children's toy rubber snakes on the roof, the downside to this was not only did it get rid of all the wood pigeons, but non of the other wild birds would come into the garden.
