Why are republicans so vile?

What is it about republicans? I have never met one yet who can discuss the monarchy without resorting to the most vile, sneering invective.

Prince William is a parasite? They can't mention any member of the royal family without some nasty little nickname. The Queen is queenie or Lizzie, Princess Anne is Anny Fanny.

And best of all telling Prince Charles, who probably works harder than any of his critics on here, to 'get a job'.

But if we happen to support the monarchy, as the vast majority of the population does, we're sycophants! No we're not! We just think that it's a superb and stabilising influence and that they bring pleasure to millions and massive tourist income to the country as well.

They really have no idea whatsoever about the number of engagements carried out by the major members of the Royal family. Charles is currently on his annual tour of Cornwall, meeting people, representing the queen at official engagements etc. And Princess Anne carries out about 300 separate engagements every year.

But these people don't choose their lives. Prince William can't help being born into his position. But he doesn't use his family's wealth to go off and live a life of idleness in the Bahamas. He's a helicopter rescue pilot, which he does in conjunction with his royal duties.

These critics are perfectly entitled to object to the monarchy and lobby for a republic if they so wish but why do they all have to be vile, sneering and hateful creatures? There's not one of them that I've ever come across who is fit to lick the boots of Her Majesty, who's been the most loyal servant to her country that you can imagine, and at 88 is still performing her duties.

Just for once, try to put your views across without the bile and the appalling small-minded and hateful jargon that every one of you seems to employ.

Very well put Had Enough. I wholeheartedly agree with your views.

I feel suitably chastised for my view that the ever burgeoning list of hangers on of the royal family cost too much. By hangers on I don't exclude all the other non royals that receive handsomely from the public purse.

By the way did you see the tv program the other week regarding sale of secret properties that charles's representatives have bought and sold on his behalf and paid no taxes whatever.

As call me dave says "were all in it together".

Isn't that another reason to have an election?

So not only could the people chose their Head of State, but the Head of State could chose whether they want to stand for election.

(I haven't time to respond to the rest of your diatribe, the points of which have been answered already)

What is this 'ever burgeoning list of hangers on' paid for by the state? Who are these people who carry out no civic or royal duties and get loads of money from us? And how many are there now as compared to say, twenty years ago?

The truth is that you trot out these statements with no idea of what you are talking about! And as for Charles's secret properties. Well, they can't be too secret if you know about them!

This sums up the monarchy:

The monarchy remains astonishingly good value – at under 58p per head of the British population, or around 0.005 per cent of total public spending. That’s not much to pay, in return for secure constitutional government, a dose of national pleasure and incalculable billions in tourism income and national branding value for UK plc.

But I notice that neither you or your embittered buddy Peter James are answering the question, which is:

Why is that republicans can never argue their case without resorting to to the most vile, petty minded and sneering invective? What is about those who do not approve of the monarchy that turns them into hateful, hate filled and vicious creatures who cannot even talk about the birth of a child without calling it a parasite. You disgust me, you really do.

Imagine living in a country run by the likes of such people. Give me the monarchy any day.

Figures like that are obtained by simply ignoring some of the costs like the cost of Security.

And the income paid to the Windsors - for example 80% of the sand we use in building is dredged from the seabed and we have to pay Her Unelected Majesty the Queen royalties for it. That will be counted as building costs when its really Monarchy costs. There are many other examples.

As I pointed out on another thread, I don't know how you can say that anyone who calls for a democratic election should leave their home country of birth and emigrate, then you accuse others of being nasty!!!
