Inverter

Hair dryers can be anything from 400 watts to around 1800 watts, most are around 800 to 1000 watts.

Inverters are available from 150 watts up to several kilowatts so no problem getting an inverter to do the job. Cheap inverters often quote peak power on their advertising blurb it's continuous power that is the important figure.

The question is do you have enough battery power? A 1000 watt hair dryer powered by an inverter is going to draw around 85 to 90 amps. Also leisure batteries are designed for low current use over a long period drawing high current is likely to shorten their life. Even a small 400 watt travel hair dryer to go to draw around 35 amps.

Would instead getting a gas powered 'hot brush' which you could use to dry your hair, and then gas powered straighteners/tongs be an alternative, rather than use 'electric' ones? :-S

Braun do them and so do Babyliss but the gas cannisters are much easier to get for the Braun ones:

Braun 1

Braun 2

I have them and they really work very well and the gas lasts a long time, they also don't take long to heat up either.
