Dropbox worked fine but now I am worried

We are going to be in Dusseldorf on the 28th August for two or three nights. We were expecting to turn up at a city campsite and get a pitch without any hassle but now I think that might not be the case. Has anyone got any idea of camp site availability whilst the caravan show is on?

There is a camping area on site that can take over 2000 units you can not book but there is always space, also free servicing. It's free to stay overnight but they charge during the day. 15€ per day or 12€ if you join the Caravan salon Club, also get 25% off entry fee and if you buy tickets on line you get free public transport in the area.

If you were intending to go to the show, follow lennyhb's advice and turn up at the caravan centre (well signposted from the Autobahn). DO join the club before arriving to get the reduced parkplatz fee AND show entry.

Buses to/from the parking area/show are free and a bit like a conveyor belt. if you miss one the next is following about 200 m behind. ALSO you can get a free bus to/from the "Alt town" of Dusseldorf in the evenings. There's a mini grocery on site for your brotchen unt Ei im morgen

If you need to drop/take on water, make sure you tell the guys on the gate, - they are usually students with 1st class English and will show you the service point.. it's a very streamlined operation..

Afterwards you'll be directed to the next available pitch. You're too late to get one with electricity. You need to book those about 10 years in advance.

BUT if you're NOT going to the show, and want to save €12 night, stay on the towpath/road that runs along the bank of the Rhine. You'll find a lot of other trucks there and it's delightful. It's not the ideal place to stay if you want to visit the show, as its a bit of a trek unless you've got bikes.

I did not plan to go to the show I did not know it was on I was told the old town was worth a visit. Now I dont know whether to keep away altogether or chance going to the ACSI site just outside the city (Meerhouse or something similar I think). Then if I fancied going to the show for the day I could go.

Do you think I will get in to the acsi site or will it be stuffed full?

From memory Meerhouse is a bi of a schlep to "Messe" (the show site) and into the Alt town, - which is definitely worth a visit. I don't know what the ACSI site will cost you but I suspect it'll be the same sort of price as staying at Messe

As your trip to Dusseldorf coincides with the Caravan Salon, my personal recommendation would be to make the most of the opportunity and stay at Messe. Convenience & proximity/free travel to Alt town etc etc

I've been to the show about 8 times now and have always taken a 2 day pass to "do it justice". It is a HUUUUGGGGE show.

Like Lennhb says, you WILL get in. I've only ever seen one of the ultra large parking areas open - and never full, but if it fills up there's another 2000 space area available!
