Tracker
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-23601215 How on earth could anyone other than those who delight in being offended find this ad offensive? However, quite how someone thought that it would persuade droves of people to try the product if they had never tried it before is also beyond me! But it made I smile and smiles are thin on the ground at times these days.

George Collings
Ifi I remember corectly Marmite is basically a yeast extract. Can you imagine the uproar if it had been a Bovril ( a beef extract) advert. Is it PC to say the objectors have been badgering Marmite over the matter. But it made I smile and smiles are thin on the ground at times these days. Usual utter tripe. It was terribly offensive! I'm joking! We've found something we agree on, which does happen occasionally! As you know I'm an intellectual and never watch TV preferring to read Proust (OK, the odd re-run of Bay Watch) but this morning there was an article about this in the Daily Telegraph, the thinking man's Chatterbox. On the off chance I tapped into YouTube on my smartphone and the advert is already there! I thought it was very clever and very funny and anyone who thinks that it denigrates the work of the real animal welfare officers is seriously humourless. Sometimes I think that people just sit in front of the telly with a notepad, ready to jot down anything that they consider isn't 100% P.C.

I apologise and hope you're not offended by my afternoon reply.....I was busy this morning trying to decide if it was 'offendivity' or 'offendedness' I was suffering from. I have decided I prefer 'offendedtivityness' which is more inclusive and leaves no room for being offended by either of the foregoing terms. After all 'inclusivity' is the name of the game these days ......and 'shortening' things will surely offend those who are 'vertically challenged' as it implies something of reduced stature being of 'lesser importance' which of course it isn't, although it might be debated to the contrary. :-)
JohnP
I don't know why the BBC headline it "Widespread Complaints" 273 complaints out of 63.3 million people is not widespread in my opinion. The result, banning of an original and funny advert. The minority dictating to the majority again.
donna miller
I can't see that the RSPCA have got the nerve to complain, they'd never go out unless they could secure either a conviction or a large donation from a will.
Dave225
Of course the Company concerned may feel any publicity is good publicity and certainly their product has become noticed. Other Companies such as Benetton and AG Barr have also produced adverts that often caused complaints but in the case of Barr's were absolutely hilarious. Barr's take on the Snowman was one of the best but no doubt someone somewhere feels it was offensive as the child in the ad fell out of the sky. Unfortunately many people in the world today have very thin skins, maybe due to global warming perhaps. Anyway they seem to take delight in getting upset over any trivial matter. Are some of them on this Forum perhaps??????

On the assumption that you do 'get over it' would that be because you have mountaineering skills or have no fear of heights, or are you using the 'vertically challenged' version which without doubt would indubitably, nay unequivocally, unquestionably indicate an ability to surmount the 'vertically challenged' version of said 'offendedivityness' without recourse to any form of climbing aid or the requirement for a safety assessment or briefing from the Professional Regional Assessment Trainer (Safety)PRATS. As far as you being 'fully aroused' I most sincerely trust that this is a mental and not physical condition because were it the physical condition I would most sincerely be 'mentally scarred' for life by the mental image it would convey. And in closing .....'heartlessness'? How very dare you Sir. Having been a fully paid up member of the 'MRSA Club'....henceforth to be known as the National (un)Healthy Service....since 1953 I consider that despite it's failings it would have discovered my medical condition many many years ago. Additionally were it factually true I feel my good lady wife would have noticed my state of decomposition by now. Sincerely, and temporarily not suffering from offendedivitynessitis....henceforth to be known by the acronym 'O'tits' I shall await your considerations, or indeed those from other occupants of this fine establishment of varying degrees of authoring. Tracker
Sir, living as I do in Norfolk there is a distinct shortage of vertically challenging surmountables within easy reach so with regret I do have to admit that I will be hoping to venture forth drekkly to surmount a vertically challenged surmountable provided the Safety & Health Instruction Tutor allows me to without recourse to specialised high altitude equipment. He too has an acronym but I am unable to recall it which is all because of the stress caused by the continuing whatever it was that started this - oh yes I remember - offendedivitynessitis - a terrible complaint with which, being a member of the National Unhealthy Trusts Society - NUTS to you - you will be all too well aware of. I can assure you that the only arousal that you have caused me is indeed mental, you will no doubt be relieved to know - or maybe not - who can tell these days - but the carer in me would not wish to see you any more mentally scarred that you already are through having been playing with the NUTS for 60 long long years! On a positive note being mentally aroused has reminded me at last that humour is indeed the best medicine and i am indebted to the honourable member for his arousal skills. Meanwhile I do understand that there are a large number of Otits on this forum and only hope that you bringing this unfortunate malady out into the daylight will enable some of them to come forward and openly brag about their condition. That said I do feel that authoring is perhaps not a powerful enough word to describe our contribution to this important subject - perhaps tripeist would be a more suitable terminology for us both?
