Credit where credit is due - Allianz

A while back we had tremendous thunder storms and the power went off a few times as a result.

Sadly we were away and when we came back we just reset the clocks and carried on as normal.

We then had three days of circa 30 deg C temperature.

And our chest freezer in the garage had not re-started for some reason after the power cuts.

When son opened it the stench nearly knocked him out.

Over £160 of food gone off - badly off.

So I did what I expected you had to do - got it all out laid it out on the drive, itemised it and took photos.

I absolutely REEKED after that and a long hot shower and lots of aftershave was needed to get the smell "out of my nose"

I then phoned Allianz who we have out House insurance with and they took the details and then just said they would send us a cheque!

"But I have pictures! - I have a list!" I said.

"Don't need it" they said.

So I told him what i had done and he laughed >:-( - he couldn't help it - neither could SWMBO who could not ruddy STOP laughing!

And as good as their word - we have had a cheque in the post this morning.

So - credit where credit is due - well done to Allianz. Damn good service.

Thank you.

Guest Had Enough

I'm not having a go here Clive but I think you've made a move you'll regret. You may have a protected NCB but I promise you your policy will now increase as you've made a claim. And if ever you have to apply for cover with anyone else you'll have to tick the dreaded box 'Have you made any claim in the last five years?'

For the next five years you'll be paying more money and the extra will more than outweigh your £160.

I now have a policy of large excesses. I upped my home contents excess to £500 and the price came down by £100.

Similarly, I would never claim for a car bump at anything under £1000 as my insurance would increase for some years on the three vehicles that I drive and more than outweigh the value of my claim.

I've learned all this the hard way as I did claim in the past for a relatively small amount (£250) but never would again.

I now treat insurance as cover for major catastrophes only.

One caveat of course, your home insurance may well have some clause where freezer cover is treated like windscreen cover on cars and doesn't affect your policy cost but I still wouldn't be surprised if they still sneak in an increase!

Our Freezer cover is like Windscreen cover Frank - it does not affect the main policy. But if i claim again for Freezer loss in the next 5 years it will be treated as a "normal" claim.

But even then - if the second claim is under the £250 "trigger" it should not effect the Core Cover.

But a good point - none the less.
