lighting42paul
I have a 2011 130 BHP Fiat based Auot-trail Navajo (purchased from new). I had to use the tow eye when stuck in some mud in Chartres... However the one in the tool kit was the wrong part. The one suppled was for a 160 BHP vehicle; the difference between the two is several inches. 160 BHP tow eye does not fit a 130 BHP base vehicle. Ended up having to call out a specialist tow truck to pull us out (175 euro out of pocket). Fiat and Auto-trail are blaming each other for the error, no one is taking any responsibility for supplying the incorrect part. Go check you have the correct part in the tool kit. Its worth checking before you need to use it!
lennyhb
Another common problem is with A class vans they are often supplied with a standard Fiat towing eye, but the A class bodywork often comes out much further from the chassis than Fiat bodywork. Should not be your / their problem, your contract is with the Dealer (Sale of Goods Act) (if purchased new) The dealer should supply the correct item from Fiat (5 day max delivery to Fiat dealer) and sort it out with Fiat and Autotrail if he is out of pocket. Guest peter
Also, if you have an a class, try it in the hole and make sure it lines up with the thread in the chassis. Ours doesn't as I found out at the Peterborough show last year. Had to be pulled out backwards. Good job we had a towbar fitted or we would have been in trouble. Guest pelmetman
Well that explains it if elf & safety are involved *-).................I wonder how many people were impaled on towing eyes? 8-).................I suspect they must of been very short :D
Muswell
I think even a low speed impact between a pedestrian's leg and a towing eye would smash the leg just below the knee. My Transit certainly sticks out far enough to do this.

If my leg was being hit by a transit tow eye, I suspect a smashed leg would be the least my worries, as there's usually at least 2 tonnes of van behind it 8-)
