HymerVan Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 Away for a long weekend in Yorkshire and noticed that my radiator is considerably covered with dead insects (about 25% of the surface area). The van has done 13K miles since I got it in April 2012. Absolutely no overheating or other engine problems but i think I should probably clean off this debris. Has anyone got advice how to do this effectively and safely. I imagine the fins may be relatively fragile and/or easy to bend ?
crinklystarfish Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 Soak them and leave them for a while, then soak them again. Use a soft paintbrush and some very mild shampoo or similar to agitate them, then blast with the hose. Or just wait till they decompose.
Tracker Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 Most of them will probably be dehydrated by the heat and airflow and the next time you go on the motorway in the wet most of 'em will probably get washed out. If they bother you you could just hose them down and blow them out with an air line. I wouldn't be inclined to use high pressure water for this as radiator fins can be quite delicate and that sort of damage I doubt would be covered by the warranty?
Guest peter Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 As Richard suggests, especially the no pressure wash advice.
