mildi
Hi, Sorry to mention dogs and beach in the same question, actually sorry to mention dogs after some of the post I have read in the last couple of months but I will be in Croatia around Krk or on mainland and wanted to know if anyone has any info on campsites near to a beach where our water mad Springer can swim. Not knowing how dog friendly the beaches are or the campsites, last one in the Alps said no dogs in the lake but then told us if we keep away from people swimming it will be ok. The one we are at in Lake Maggiore at the moment said no dogs in the lake but there is a river (very clean) that she can swim in just ten minutes walk down the road. any info would be great. Mark. Brian Kirby
Croatia, because of its geology, doesn't really do "beaches". The coast is predominantly rocky, and many swimming places are artificial, some little more than concrete aprons. There are sandy beaches, but they tend to be fairly small and very popular, so you may encounter resistance. From memory, the greatest expanses of sand were around Zadar and just south of Split. You should also be aware that many of the rocks are covered in spiny sea urchins (as is fairly common on Med/Adriatic coasts) and these may present a risk for a dog. The water, on the other hand, at least once south of Istria, is generally crystal clear.
snowie
Hi Mark; don't have a dog, and appreciate your consideration. We were in /on Pag last year, and whilst Brian's general comment regarding Croatian beaches still applies, I'd recommend anyway, and maybe more chance of less populated beaches? Plenty of islands to choose from, regards alan b
mildi
many thanks for those two comments, Not bothered about sandy prefer pebble beach (wet dog and sand not a good mix) just a place away from roads by the water. Good to have the info on the area. Thank you.
Guest JudgeMental
On the south coast of Krk you will find the town of Baska and a campsite right on edge of town. its a lovely spot..just call the reception and ask about dogs and dogs on beach, or the hotel that owns the campsite....or maybe try a tourist office http://www.hotelibaska.hr/hr/kampovi/kamp-zablace.aspx http://www.hotelibaska.hr/en/camping.aspx
mildi
Many thanks Judgemental, emailed the hotel and they do have part of the beach for dogs but they did try to book me into the naturist campsite!!!! not my thing I still want to keep the white bits. I wasn't too keen on having to wear the speedos in France so letting it all hang out wasn't an option but each to their own. I am not that good with the internet thing but it would be good if there was some way to have a list of truly dog friendly places, We are in Italy at the moment and she is more tolerated than welcomed, just found out the campsite next door has a part of their beach on the lake were they let dogs swim but we are away again in a couple of days so no point moving. I noticed people with dogs from this campsite going over to the other campsite to let their dogs in the lake. Would also be good for those who do not like the four legged friends on which places to avoid.
Guest JudgeMental
No...the nudist site which they also own I guess is out east of town. You need the main site Camping Zablace, attached to the hotel whose facilities you can also use and they are excellent! Its easily viewed in google maps and as previously said its on edge of town on west side. great beach, great town...No need to book in September I would think..need to check if in ACSI discount scheme (assuming you have book). But prices were not bad even in July, we just camped in the open section not the marked pitches.
mildi
Many thanks for the tip Judgemental We got to Baska,, very nice place great town and beach, just what we like. 23e per night pitch by the beach which is great when you don't get a windy day/night. Dog beach was about ten mins walk away but office said if no one was on the beach we could use the campsite one. we are sitting out a storm and then we are off . When we booked in we were given a pass to use the hotel restaurant for buffet breakfast or dinner. We used it for dinner a couple of times, very very good food, as much as you like for about £11 a head.
