Bojitoes
I thought we had finalised our trip to Berlin next week already but a friend just said if we are going to Berlin why not go on to Prague as well. No idea about sites / routes etc can find those out when we are there but any suggestions what to see in Prague and is it worth the trip? Any thoughts appreciated Thanks Bob
John 47
Hi It all depends on what you are interested in but Prague is one of my favourite cities with a wealth of things to see, including the Castle, the St Vitus Cathedral, the majestic Old Town with its astronomical clock, the Charles Bridge and a whole lot more - just wander through the old town and soak up the atmosphere. If you are going from Berlin to Prague, I would also recommend having a look at Dresden/Meissen, which are about half-way between the two - and on the way back, try Karlovy Varly and its spas. To include Prague will add about 300 - 400 miles to your trip, so it all depends on how much time you have. Enjoy your trip.
Robinhood
Prague is an enjoyable city to visit. .....we did Berlin, followed by the Dresden area, and then on to Prague. We actually stayed en route at the campsite at Königstein, up the Elbe from Dresden, which is a picturesque area with a good few things to do (walking and/or cycling - and a quite spectacular castle). Dresden is very easy to visit from here on the local train, which was inexpensive when we used it, and the ticket included local travel in Dresden. There is also a riverside Stellplatz just downstream from Königstein. We enjoyed our visit to Prague, and stayed here: http://www.volny.cz/convoy/ ...which we found very convenient, and close to the centre). It isn't obvious from the website whether the little ferry (not the one mentioned in the details) still runs across to the bank adjacent to the metro station, which made it very easy to get into town. Visiting Prague (other than for the more hedonistic pursuits) is (at least for me) mainly about the architecture. It is simply a rewarding city to wander around in, and the major sights, (castle, cathedral, Charles Bridge, etc.) are easily matched by little architectural gems which appear around every corner. Brian Kirby
Agreed. We went in 2008 and stayed at Sunny Camping, Stodulky: here: N50.03970 E14.32941 10 mins walk to metro, and good service to/from the centre. Lots to see.
yeti
We have visited a couple of times and went via Nuremberg. There is a campsite there just behind the footy stadium, follow the sign. Prague is a short mornings drive, but you will have to by a 'vignette' to use the motorways. There is a site on the University sports ground just outside the city on a main tram route. Public transport runs 24 hours, after 11 only the main routes operate, the feeder services restart 6 am. There is a site in the centre by the Yacht club. We also stayed outside in Karlstein in a delightful riverside location, each pitch had a fire pit. Karlstein is the location for the treasury castle. The site book we used was called Autokampy Csesky.
