La Manga, Spain

Hi

La Manga is a great site, ideal for water sports wind surfing and sailing, as it boarders the Mar Menor, took Electric bikes down a couple of years ago, fabulous, the roads are quite and the major roads normally have side or service roads that you can use that run parallel. Behind the site towards the ocean it is very hilly, a challenge if that is your thing, the area is surrounded by villages or towns all with adequate watering holes. Did manage to cycle all the way round the lake, using the ferry to bridge the top half in a day.

Not that close to the airport, I am not sure how much a taxi would cost or if it would be worth hiring a car if you need to get to the airport. I am sure someone will give you further information. The C&CC do run a rally there which is very well attended.

The pitches are spacious and bordered with hedges on small white stones. The site is very long and quite a big site, in the middle is a pool there is an indoor pool as well, tennis, ping pong tables, boules and miniature golf.

I liked it the site especially the bar that served tapas on the beach front. There is an area in which entertainment is laid on.

Hope this helps

La Manga is a site you either like, or hate totally. It is popular with ralliers but if that is not your scene then I would suggest there are better ;places to go. It is popular with windsurfers but the water is almost a lagoon now and cleanliness is a matter of discussion. There is a waterside bar and restaurant which when we were there was dirty and messy. The site can also suffer badly for wind unless you pick your spot carefully. Bluntly we booked for 2 weeks but left after 3 days and found far far nicer further down the coast. You will meet equal numbers of people who like it and plenty of others who will never go back.

By the way the ground is rock hard and you need hard rock pegs. It is also a good idea to use water to soften the ground before trying to get them in.

Evidently ownership changed a few years back and facilties have gone downhill. San Javier airport is about 40 minutes drive from La Manga and I guess a taxi fare will be 50-70 euros. The site may be able to advise other methods. There is off area parking at the airport but be careful as most are just open fields. Safe enough but your car will be dusty.

It is your choice.

We stayed at la Manga in February this year and it was very windy-that said most of the rest of Spain was as well. We were at the bottom of the site and struggled with Sat dish so asked to move and they were very helpful and gave us a much better & larger pitch at the same price (ASCI)

The C& CC take over the middle bit of the site for their rally and the toilet block, however there are plenty of shower blocks on the site if you want to use them rather than your van and they were all impeccably clean and re-cleaned at least 3 times per day

The entertainment revolves round the bar and is Quiz, Bingo and some local entertainers which were quite good really-most were free admission. The tapas we found were a bit iffy and the service the same.

It is a very big site, has a supermarket on site and an indoor swimming pool but you have to pay extra for this. Lovely beach on the Mar Menor and Cabo de Palos is a lovely spot about 2/3 miles from the site.

La Manga itself was deserted totally when we were there (we got stopped by police on Sunday on the bike and asked where we were going-when we said La Manga center he asked -'WHY'?!!)

It is within travelling distance of Cartegena for a day out and there is a big market at a town en route but can't remember the name.

Nice walk up the beach to couple of villages with bars en route to refresh yourself. As posted above almost all the roads have a small road running alongside them for cycling etc so you don't have to ride up the dual carriageway

Would we go again? Probably not at that time of year as there is nothing much doing outside the camp at that time

Hope this helps

La Manga is a very friendly site, well positioned for the nearby national park and the Mar Menor.

There are photos of the area and some details of the CCC rally On my website.
