Rowan Lee Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 I bought an Avtex W165DRS at Lincoln Show last weekend. My sister bought the 18" model which is lovely but is too wide for our van so we got the 16" which is really disappointing, nothing like the sleek ultra modern 18". The main problem is that the power and aerial leads all plug in on the rear, so the flat to wall bracket won't fit. I have had to put a piece of wood behind the new smaller bracket to bring it out from the wall to accommodate the cables, which rather defeats the object of a slim TV! So after all that, you can imagine my frustration when the DVD doesn't work. Has anyone got any ideas why it keeps rejecting the discs. The book says they go in label to the back, but I have tried them both ways, several different discs, but every time it loads them in then spits them straight out again. Am I doing something wrong, or is it faulty? Really fed up.
Mrs T Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 Did you not see it was not slim when you bought it? If the DVD fails to work then return ASAP as not fit for purpose, if you cannot find them due to them being at the show, that's life and a risk one takes.
Rowan Lee Posted September 25, 2013 Author Posted September 25, 2013 No, I didn't actually see it on show as they had sold out, so they sent one from the shop. I just assumed it would be the same design as the two larger ones. I don' think I will have any problems returning it as they are a very reputable company I bought it from. i just wondered if I was doing something stupid before I ask to send it back. It is actually quite slim, just not as nice as the others.
Mrs T Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 If the item is smaller with the same internal bits then it may be normal to widen the body to fit them all in. I think you assumed here and should not have done so which makes your rejection difficult, however if the DVD is non working return it and ask for your money back.
birdybiker66 Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 Just a thought, is it in DVD mode before you put the disc in? Dave
Rowan Lee Posted September 25, 2013 Author Posted September 25, 2013 Yes, Dave. The disc goes in, it says its loading, then it spits it out again. As I say, I have tried several different discs. Can't think what it can be, I just wondered if anyone out there has had the same problem.
birdybiker66 Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 We got the 186 DRS from there on Sundayand the disc loads fine, so it seems yours is faulty, let us know how things go, Dave
tonyishuk Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 Have a word with Avtex on the phone, or email them. On the couple of problems I had they were very quick at resolve. They sent me a replacement remote controller at no charge when my went faulty after the warranty period had ended. Rgds
donna miller Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 As above. Avtex customer service is superb, I had problems with one of the aerials we bought for the T5. They sent out replacement without even asking for original back. Just a thought on the discs, are they proper original region 2 discs, a lot of dvd players will not play copies or discs from another region, European discs should be region 2 if I remember correctly. Have a look in the TV handbook and it should tell you if its a multi region player.
Mel B Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 Are you trying to play official original discs (ie produced by film company) or your own 'home made' recorded discs? We've found that some of our home recorded ones get spat out occasionally by our Avtex, or they won't play due to the recording format being incompatible. If it does it on ALL types of DVDs then it would seem that the machine is faulty.
Rowan Lee Posted September 30, 2013 Author Posted September 30, 2013 Hi everybody, thanks for all the suggestions. I have tried both home made discs and pre-recorded, and I spoke to Avtex on Thursday but they had no suggestions other than it's faulty. We were away over the weekend but I have today packed up the TV and sent it back for a refund.
sakofox Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 Try this fix all For all those with an avtex tv and are having trouble trying to play dvds other than region 2 (uk),here is a hack that will change it to region free (0). 1 Put tv into DVD mode without a disc in it. 2 Press DVD setup button but ignore the setup page. 3 Enter this code... 9210 and then press 0.This turns the machine to region free mode for good and worked just fine.Hope this helps.
