Go there! It's an experience of a lifetime doing the "GREY NOMAD" bit round Aus, it will certainly take you out of your European comfort zone.

Any chip shops? :-S

It may help to look at the CMCA website. It is quite limited and forumless but there are also links which may be of use. To give you an idea of current costs, we travelled almost around Australia at about $17 a day, exclusive of fuel which is about $1.62 a litre.

My wife's blog is on bigtripalmostaroundaus.blogspot.com it might be two years out of date but gives you an idea of an easy trip with no dramas.

CMCA stands for Campervan and motorhome club of Australia, www.cmca.net.au .

Hi folks, We had a chance to visit Aus quit a few years ago, and enquired about camper hire for 3 weeks. We eventually hired an ordinary car at half the price and paid for b an b vouchers for the duration via oztravel.

Collected car at Cairns and drove all down pacific highway returning from Sidney, total costing less than camper hire for same duration, and costs paid up front .

Each stopover was willing to fone ahead and book next stop if required, and voucher system worked extremely well. Only one motel was a bit below par, but still acceptable.

We took a coolbox (esky in oz terms) and bought salads and cold drinks for middays and evening meals at bnb overnights, hence no cooking for better half. Dozens of picnic areas with bbq areas so bbq and salads were more than adequate during the days.

I dont think it would be worth hiring a camper, personally as it significantly increases costs.

Check with oztravel to see if voucher system still available.
