Fred Duck
2004 2.0 JTD Fiat Ducato. Booked MOT for Wednesday morning. Just been to the van to check over lights and things beforehand and find what appeared to be total head/side light failure. Waggling the switch at the end of the stalk and the lights come on but don't, always, stay on. The switch is, obviously, faulty or maybe needs the contacts internally cleaning. Any ideas if they can be accessed or a fix that doesn't require the full replacement of the switch/stalk (stalk also controls indicators that work perfectly). Brambles
Operate them repeatedly a few times with ign off, well many times, to wear off any surface oxide and dirt on the contacts, and then repeat with the ign on for any further remaining oxide/tarnishing of the contacts. You have nothing to lose by trying it.
Fred Duck
Thanks. Tried that off and on most of yesterday. Also gave the internals (as far as I could) a good blast of switch cleaner but I'm afraid it's made no difference. MOT put off for a week to give me chance to sort it but, other than a complete new switch unit, don't know what else I can do. Can't find any references to a similar problem anywhere on the internet. Brambles
Thats a shame. Its a while since I looked at one of these switches and not sure how easy it is to dismantle, more and more parts are being glued together which make dismantling and art. All you can do is go for it. I will have a look and see if I can find anything but I doubt it. Worth looking on Ebay for a replacement...search for Boxer, Relay and Ducato. Brambles
I think the part number for a new switch assembly is Fiat 735309507 You should be abe to get a new one for around £60.

Speaking from past experience, if you think getting one of these things apart is difficult just wait until you try to get it back together again! Have you considered getting a used switch from a breaker, should not be a problem as switch failure is, as far as I know, quite rare?
Fred Duck
Thanks again. Ebay does have some but all second hand from breakers and who can say if they're any better? Dealer price for supply and fit is £347inc VAT - and they have the part so maybe a time to reluctantly bite the bullet. Fitting involves removing the steering wheel air bag, and then the steering wheel. After that, the switch unit simply clamps around the column so appear to come off quite simply. thebishbus
Hi.www.fiatalfadealerparts.co.uk tel.08458601003 list P/N 735309507.1303898808 as 2001-2005 Ducato wiper / indicator switch £128.49 reduced to £64.49 but out of stock. They list a range of stalk switches, some at greatly reduced prices, may be worth checking with them. Brian B. ps I Think they are clearence dealers
Fred Duck
Thanks. Tried them. Would be £64.49 if they had some!! They've nothing available. They are clearance people and I've used them before. Cheap and good to deal with - if they've got what you want. FD

Brambles
There is also wannapart, and try searching google europe wide, sure to be someone in Latvia these days selling and will ship world wide...always is. I have had parts from Latvia and usually come in about 5 or 6 days. Never given ,much thought to warranty on them though but of course paypal will protect you for the purchase. Gota Fiesta headlight for £25 instead of £100ish and RHD. I shall take a look.
Brambles
http://www.carswitches.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=283710 £60something no idea who they really are though. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fiat-Ducato-RST-Turn-Signal-Wiper-Column-Switch-2002-/160977090107?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item257afb763b#ht_2193wt_1244 Latvia seller. £60ish Even get them on Amazon http://www.amazon.co.uk/VALEO-SERVICE-251573-Steering-Column/dp/B0068M9UU0 £84ish http://www.mister-auto.co.uk/en/combination-switch/valeo-251573_g1563_a021251573.html £60ish You will need to check this is the correct part because of the airbag. ABOVE IS ALL WRONG - will leave in for others as reference. START AGAIN. The Fiat number for part you need is 735309607 if you have an air bag ( it is different again if you have radio steering wheel controls and cruise control) http://www.amazon.co.uk/VALEO-SERVICE-251574-Column-Module/dp/B0068M9VFO/ref=sr_1_1?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1382471682&sr=1-1&keywords=valeo+251574 £112.60. Brambles
Oh Jeez, I wish you could edit after 30 mins. Part number with airbag is 735309508. NOT the one I said in last post. No idea where that number in last post came from.
Brambles
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FIAT-DUCATO-Box-230L-Steering-Column-Switch-VALEO-251574-/281147111582?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item4175ac789e#ht_1679wt_1244 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/COMMODO-VALEO-251574-FIAT-DUCATO-/400371937022?pt=JG_FR_Auto_Pi%C3%A8ces&hash=item5d3806eefe#ht_1242wt_1006 ..and another UK one. http://www.mister-auto.co.uk/en/combination-switch/valeo-251574_g1563_a021251574.html £87ish Loads about when you really start searching, so you could buy part and get local garage to fit for probably abour 1 hour labour. Lot cheaper than using main dealer. They are easy to fit youself actually. Steering wheel is really easy to get off, but you do need to know what you are doing with respect to the airbag for safety so probably best to use a garage.
