Hi Gwyn.

We bought 2 bikes around 3 years ago from AS Bikes based in Coventry, they are always at the shows. Bikes fold down quite small and the battery does around 30 miles on a charge, may do more but never gone that far yet..

After sales service in excellent, as said before on this site, we were in Annecy this year when I had a spoke break, my fault, e.mailed AS bikes just for advice on size of spoke so we could look around bike shops in Annecy, ,,,, there reply was " let me have your address and we will send some to you free of charge"... Arrived 3 days later,

Bikes still going strong.

I bought two small folders from AS Bikes. I agree with "Judge" that they are built to a price and are not anywhere near German quality. However, they do the job, they haul us up some steep hills and at 23kg with battery are light enough. AS Bikes have been excellent with spares supplied by return of post, out of warranty free of charge. The few spares I have needed were due to "fall offs" and other unfortunate accidents by my other half, (OK I did break something once, but it wasn't my fault :-D )

You do get what you pay for, but if you want a reasonably priced reasonable quality bike with good backup AS Bikes are good.

Note for AS Bikes:- Does this entitle me to lifetime free spares Pete?.

We met a Scottish chap on a campsite in Salzburg earlier this year who had an AS folding bike, and he sung its praises. When we got back to the UK we planned to go to a show in Exeter and buy a couple.

Luckily, the week before the show we saw a couple being advertised on MHF, so snapped them up for less than £600 the pair.

They are brilliant. I haven't tried any other brand, so can't comment on if there are better or worse, but our AS bikes do what I expected.

Just took delivery of a Giant Freedom electric bike.Got it of Gumtree for £300 after researching the specs as it's a 2009 model. The delivery driver was surprised that the pick up went ahead in the first place as it wasn't the best wrapping job he'd seen.

It weighs a massive 26Kg with it's two batteries, which are tired, but give about 15 miles each, pedal assist only.I deliberately went for a pedelec as it forces me to put a bit of effort into getting anywhere in order to improve my fitness.

you can always buy cheapish third party batteries..not always necessary to get the expensive brands..I would look on German ebay (ebay.de) some great bargains on bikes and batteries....

A while back...over on the ebike forum a couple of well known UK e bike companies, made inquires re booking space at motorhome shows and commented on the experience.......the current exhibitioners objected to the idea of competition so strongly they were prevented...Its like going to a green grocers to buy a chicken expecting to choose the right ebike from a motorhome show, most are impulse buys, and they dont have to even try to compete...or give a test ride.

want a decent e bike? go to a few e bike specialist shops, and try a range of them....Then you can make an informed choice for goodness sakes *-)

You can get batteries for that direct from China. This supplier is known to be reliable. The cost for one battery including shipping is £139. The price for two is £260. There's a fair chance that you'll have to pay an additional VAT and handling fee of somewhere between £15 and £40.

They also do a 12 amp-hour version.

We were on the Aire in La Fleche, when  a kit car pulled on with GB plates, the driver looked at all the reg No of the Motorhomes and came over to us His Name is Dave and he lives near La Fleche, the following day he came on his French electric bike which he told us he purchased over in France after looking at the prices in the UK and it cost him just over half of what they would charge in the uk, he did admit it only had the Lead acid battery and that was where the weight was, but for around 90 euro more he could have had the lightweight digital battery, so it might be worth waiting or even going to France to purchase your electric bike.

Just a brief update, we went to AS cycles this week to have a look at their bikes very impressed with the people there, liked the bikes and having taken the van, checked that we could get the 26" folders inside. We are now the proud possessors of one each and very happy with them
