Food manufacturers are increasing their profits by

Reducing the product size = profit.

Removing syrup in peach slices and prunes then adding 'juice' = profit

Reducing sugar =profit

On the radio tonight manufacturers are being asked to reduce fat = profit.

Conversly Eat 5 a day = profit

Do not believe all this hype about health and certain ingreients not good for you ITS PROFIT that counts.

Over weight is what goes in, not what type !

How awful, people trying to increase their profits! What's the world coming to? We're all doomed!

It's the profit motive that drives business, increases competition and product improvement.

Then again we could always nationalise the lot and be as wealthy and healthy as the citizens of the old USSR and DDR. Just imagine the joy of motorhoming in a Trabant!

I don't think anyone objects to profit per se - after all without a profit in our work tasks why would we do it?

Mr Micawber's famous, and oft-quoted, recipe for happiness:-

"Annual income twenty pounds, annual expenditure nineteen [pounds] nineteen [shillings] and six [pence], result happiness. Annual income twenty pounds, annual expenditure twenty pounds ought and six, result misery."

Which also demonstrates the two key points - Turnover is vanity, profit is sanity.

But when it comes to food - there is something rumbling along under the surface at the moment - it seems that evidence is building that the Sugar Industry by devious means suppressed the real harm sugar does and managed to point the finger at fat - cholesterol in particular.

This should be an interesting story as it unfolds.

Oi you lot, this is about protein and profit its not a personal argument between a few of you who just want an argument so keep to the question re your comments please

Surely the question is about profit per-say? :-S............as the same argument can be applied to all big businesses whether they make ready meals or not *-).............indeed I would suggest avoiding feeding the processed food fat cats is far easier than our energy providers ;-)...............Just by doing as we do, preparing our meals from scratch B-) .....................far tastier and cheaper :->
