Sky boxes

Many of the frequencies previously used by the Astra 2 A and B satellites will be reused on the new, replacement, satellites 2 E, F and G but if you want to change now and get used to using one of the new satellites then any of the "Pan European" transponders on 2 F will be ok .

Just as a starter 12552 vertical will do the job. Note - You will need to change the FEC and S/R to 22/0 and 5/6

All that changing the default transponder does is to give the box a sign that it can see the satellite so it then goes ahead and loads the EPG (electronic program guide). When in Spain / Portugal a sky box couldn't see the old 2A and B northern beams from which 11778 vertical was transmitted so didn't go ahead and load the channels it could see.

Astra 2A from which the old default transponder frequency is still being broadcast is due to be moved off station in early 2014 once the new satellites are running.

So any dish aligned to that (2A) will not receive any signal? What will be the effect. (not too technical please!) i.e., realign dish, replace transponder, or adjust settings on Sky box?

"Astra 2" will still be at the same location so alignment will be the same.

The physical satellites that have been providing the signals are being retired and new ones put in the same position....they have slightly different names but are still the group known as "Astra 2".

With the advent of the latest satellites comes the ability to more accurately target the beam to the intended audience, hence the comments about being more difficult to pick up some of the channels with small dishes.

With regard to the 'alternate' tuning frequency, i would note the one given in Bernie's post and use if required.
