Brock
Mercedes Benz, Volvo, and Scania now fit Predictive Cruise Control to their lorries. This uses enhanced data about routes so the PCC knows the hills and slopes and with knowledge of the truck, including its kinetic energy, can adjust the behaviour of the truck. For example, it might accelerate before the hill to maintain speed up the hill. In tests reported by Truck & Driver, the PCC improved the performance of the lorries using the PCC compared to manual by between 0.2% and 0.7% on average speed and between 1.5% and 5.9% on fuel economy. The MB Actros PCC was found to be unbeatable even by the expert drivers using manual. I'd guess it'll take ten years to see these in commercial vans. George Collings
No doubt there will also be a hammer to tap the driver on the head to keep him awake.

malc d
My suggestion to those who like all these ' labour saving ' gadgets in their vehicles is to go by bus. Then you don't even have to steer. :-D
