I don't know what's afoot but the lions over the road are making a helluva racket ,could it be because its frosty? They don't normally go on & on like they are doing at the moment: perhaps someone's disturbed them:(there's a wildlife park over the road from me) when they first moved here and actually roared me and the hubby looked at each other in disbelief ....it's so LOUD , if your walking home from pub and they start its like they are behind you... Eyup they're at it again : I love it who needs the Serengeti ? Lol question ...do tigers roar?? Pp. wouldn't get robbed with a couple of them loose down the drive eh?

That sounds fantastic Pam - I was lucky enough to spend time in Kenya in my 30's and still remember the deep roar come grumble noise of the lions.

I liken it to a firework display when you can feel the noise in your chest as much as hear it.

The noise is a deep rumble that really travels.

And if you ever suffer from cats crapping on your vegetable patch - go an ask for a bit of lion poo and put that on your garden. The local cats will avoid your garden like the plague!

The gypsies parked up on the road from us were making a racket too last night Pam . I think like you say the frost and cold was probably affecting them as I don't think they have managed to break into the electric supply yet , must of been freezing poor souls .

Two years ago I heard wolves howling in the middle of the night wildcamping on our own 6000ft up in the Alps near the French Italian Border. I kept going out for a fag, it was pitch black and very still and they sounded nearer each time.

No lions up there though I dont think.

We're in Morocco and every morning at about six o'clock there's a horrible wailing noise from the top of a nearby tower. Sometimes there are other towers close by and they seem to compete with each other to see who can wail the loudest.

The same thing happens several times during the day! Very annoying! I much prefer lions.

Well, it's alright for you Mr. Liberal Leftie, but you just wait until you've visited a wildlife park and had your handbag snatched by a Romanian lion as happened to my wife last year. This would never have happened under the Conservatives!

Bugger, I forgot, we are under the Conservatives. Anyway, it would never have happened under Maggie.

Actually more terrifying than the wolves were the Stags rutting on the Aire at Biron in the Dordogne. Its in the shadow of a superb Chateaux but very dark at night if your down in the field and its surrounded by woods full of Stags that in September in the Rutting season make a right racket and often fight in the field.

The noise is like something out of Jurassic Park and again they got dammed close to the van. Smoking is a dangerous for sure!

Lovely Aire though if your passing that way.
