courtesy lights

Hi All

apparently, mine and most other vans and cars have a "battery saver function" that will turn off courtesy lights etc. after 15 minutes to prevent inadvertant draining of the battery. Great in a normal van but mine double as reading lights when in the old captains chair so does anyone know how to disable the damn thing so the light will stay on?

Thanks in advance

TC

Take it it's a 'Sevel' X250 Cab ? don't think the courtesy lights are programmable from the 'setup menu' . In which case, the best way would be to run a seperate 12v supply (constant) from either the vehicle system ( the reason the cut-off is there) or better still from the leisure battery, there are still on/off switches on the lights (on My 2012 Fiat Ducato there is anyway) so you can still turn it off when you want to.

Thats the problem when vehicle designers 'Target ' what they think the final user will be : A 'hassled van delivery driver' who WILL forget to (1) turn off internal lights (2) turn off the radio. (3) leave the headlights on (4) NOT turn the lights on when the light fades or it is foggy(5) not put his seatbelt on when he is supposed to. The result is vehicles which 'BONG BONG' at you, switch off the radio when you are listening intently (my mum used to do that, when she was trying to get me to bed !!) Or switch off a 'courtesy' light when you are reading, without so much as a 'By your leave' NOT very courtious at all.

And what is 'Windscreen wipers' that switch themselves ON when they feel like it, all about.?

Anyway Rant over, Good luck. Ray

My suggestion would be to leave the existing lights exactly as they are as you don't want to upset the CANBUS do you!

And then add new (LED?) reading lights powered off your leisure battery so you don't run the risk of flattening your starter battery.

Seems the simplest answer all round to me.

Keith.
