Winter camping near villages?

We are new to motorhoming having previously had a caravan and car, so the importance of camping somewhere near a village/town has become relevant! Any suggestions of your favourite sites in the north of England (Midlands, Yorkshire,Co. Durham) where the site has hardstandings, electric hook up, and is a reasonable walking distance (a mile or two) from a village or town with a pub and/or a shop/cafe? It could be a club or commercial site, or a CL or CS? Where do you go?

Hi

Not actual locations but this is a good website for sourcing 'sites(and also includes reviews)

http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/

If it's one night stops you are after, then the likes of... http://www.britstops.com/ may be of use..

Or maybe something like this: http://www.ukpubstopovers.co.uk/

Or..use google maps and search " campsites near........." and see what comes up..

It is a problem in the UK with a motorhome as sites are often in the middle of nowhere but here are some that we can recommend,

Durham area

Durham Amateur Rowing Club CL walking distance of Durham city along river.

Fir Tree Caravan Park CS, Fir Tree, Crook in village with a couple of pubs.

Doe Park Caravan Site, Cotherstone, Barnard Castle. Lovely site within walking distance of Fox and Hounds at Cotherstone along a footpath.

Westgate Caravan and Camping site, Westgate, Weardale on edge of Westgate village with a few pubs and shops.

York area

Cawood Holiday Park, Cawood within easy reach of village with pubs, Site has swimming pool and licenced bar.

Rawcliffe Manor, York. Set in pub grounds and within 5 minutes walking distance of Clifton Moor shopping centre

East Yorkshire

Willow Lane CS, Beverley. Within walking distance of town and near to Beverley Minster.

Burton Constable holiday park, Sproatley, Hull. Superb site within 5 minutes walk of village.

The Willows Holiday Park, Withernsea, Within a mile of the town and beach.

Hope this helps

Happy Travelling

If you like to visit the pub then you will probably find (especially this time of year) that most pubs with big car parks will allow you stay over if your going to have a few beers or a meal. I have done this a lot in the Lake District. The sun inn and Pooley Bridge inn at Ulswater were always very welcoming.

I often look them up on Google Maps satellite view and if they look suitable give them a call. They can only say no.
