But if they have been sitting around a while you would be best to charge them independently first to make sure they are OK. Also it is not a good idea to connect batteries in different states of charge together for charging. Once you have charged them and then is a periodic top up charge and both are reading the same voltage then you can connect together for topping up the charge.
